Freeman, Hamilton Win MPSF Awards

NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics fifth-year senior Jack Freeman was named MPSF Specialist of the Week and Nico Hamilton was named MPSF Freshman of the Week after their performances on Saturday at Michigan, the conference office announced Tuesday.
Freeman tied his career high on high bar, scoring a 14.500 to place second on the event, and notched a 13.750 on floor exercise in Oklahoma's meet at Michigan. The high bar score eclipsed his previous season high by two tenths. The Palestine, Texas, product ranks second nationally on high bar with his 14.350 average, and 10th nationally on floor exercise (14.117 average).
Hamilton registered a career-high 14.800 on floor exercise and notched a 13.600 on parallel bars, totaling 28.400 on his two events. His floor exercise tally included an incredible 9.5 execution score on the routine, and he stuck the dismount. He is only the second gymnast nationally to score at least 14.800 on floor exercise this season. The Grapevine, Texas, product ranks fifth nationally in floor exercise with his three-score average of 14.250.
This is Freeman's second straight conference weekly honor this season and the third of his career, and Hamilton's first conference award. Oklahoma gymnasts have now won 15 MPSF weekly awards this season. Freeman was named MPSF Specialist of the Week last week, redshirt sophomore Fuzzy Benas was named MPSF Gymnast of the Week on Jan. 23, Feb. 13 and Feb. 27, senior Zach Nunez was named Gymnast of the Week on Feb. 20, junior Emre Dodanli was named Specialist of the Week on Jan. 16 and Jan. 30, sophomore Ignacio Yockers was named Specialist of the Week on Jan. 23, Feb. 6 and Feb. 13, sophomore Kelton Christiansen was named Specialist of the Week on Feb. 20, and freshman Colin Flores was named Freshman of the Week on Jan. 23 and Feb. 6.
The Sooners return home to McCasland Field House on Saturday to take on No. 9 Navy at 5:45 p.m. It will be Senior Night and Alumni Night, as the Sooners will honor their seniors after the meet and welcome alumni back to the Field House. Fans will have the opportunity to take photos with OU's national championship trophies, and recently elected CGA Hall of Famer Jonathan Horton will be on hand signing autographs prior to the meet.
