No. 24 Oklahoma (16-6, 10-1 Big 12) looks to hold on to sole possession of first place in the Big 12 standings on Saturday night when it heads to Ames for a battle with the Cyclones. The Sooners have won seven in a row and returned to the AP Top 25 on Monday, but Iowa State (13-8, 7-4 Big 12) is vying to get closer to the top of the Big 12.
Tip is set for 6 p.m. CT on ESPN+ at Hilton Coliseum in Ames, Iowa.
THE STARTING FIVE
- The Sooners are sharing the ball the best they have all season entering Saturday night. OU has posted 20+ assists in six of its last seven games and has risen to third nationally in APG (20.3). Starting point guard Nevaeh Tot has been the primary driver, leading the Big 12 with an A/TO Ratio of 2.9 since entering league play. Four different Sooners post 2.0 APG and Oklahoma boasts the nation's second-highest assist percentage (71%) as OU heads to Ames.
- The Sooners are back in the polls after a two-month hiatus as OU reappeared at No. 24 in this week's AP Top 25 poll. OU is receiving votes in the WBCA Coaches Poll. The Sooners checked in at No. 35 in the latest NET ranking and are tabbed as an 8 seed in the latest bracketology.
- OU has been the among best in the Big 12 in conference play when it comes to sharing the ball and limiting turnovers. In conference games, Oklahoma leads the league in assists per game (20.4) and turnovers per game (12.4).
- A win would be Oklahoma's eighth consecutive win, which would be tied for the second longest streak under third-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk.. The longest streak under her was a nine-game swing in 2021-22. It would move Oklahoma to 11-1 in conference play for the first time since the 2008-09 team started 12-0 en route to a conference title (15-1) and Final Four appearance.
- Since the Big 12 was launched in 1996, OU has been a stalwart of the league's women's basketball contingent. Oklahoma has won 11 Big 12 championships, reaching the NCAA Tournament 21 times since 1996, tied for second most in the league. All-time, Oklahoma has posted a 362-266 record vs. Big 12 teams.
SERIES HISTORY
Saturday is the 74th all-time meeting between Oklahoma and Iowa State, and the final in Ames as Big 12 foes. The Sooners are 13-19 at Hilton Coliseum, where they haven't won since 2017. OU leads the all-time series 42-31.
LAST TIME OUT
Oklahoma shot 48% from the field and used a strong second half to overpower TCU, 72-55, in Norman on Wednesday and remain in first place in the Big 12.
The win marked Oklahoma's (16-6, 10-1 Big 12) seventh straight victory – the third-longest winning streak of the Jennie Baranczyk era – and the Sooners are 10-1 in league play for the first time since 2008-09.
