Women's Hoops Set for Top-20 Test at Jumpman Invitational

December 16, 2024 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN  No. 10 Oklahoma (9-1) will try and improve to 10-1 and secure its final ranked victory of the non-conference slate on Tuesday night when it takes on No. 20 Michigan at the Jumpman Invitational in Charlotte. The Sooners are undefeated (3-0) in December and 1-1 in top-25 battles this season. The game tips at 8:30 p.m. CT on ESPN2.

The Sooners are 1-1 at the Jumpman Invitational, defeating Florida in 2022 and dropping last year's tilt to North Carolina. Under Baranczyk, Oklahoma is 10-8 in neutral site games and 1-1 this season and the Sooners are looking to secure their 13th top-25 win under the fourth-year head coach.

FAN INFO

The game tips at approximately 8:30 p.m. CT on Tuesday on ESPN2, following the conclusion of the North Carolina vs. Florida men's basketball game.

Sooner Radio Network (107.7 FM/1520 AM) will also carry the game with Brian Brinkley and Kevin Henry calling the action.

THE STARTING FIVE

  • The Sooners enter Sunday's contest ranked 13th in the latest NET ranking. Baranczyk's team is 2-1 in Quad 1/2 games after the win at No. 22 Louisville and the lone loss coming to then-No. 13 Duke on a neutral court in overtime. OU's 7-0 in Quad 3/4 games with an average margin of victory over 40.0. Michigan is 18th in the latest NET.

  • Oklahoma leads the country in paint points per game (48.6) and ranks second nationally in 2P% (58.8%). Additionally, the Sooners outscore their opponent by an average of 28.4 points per game in the painted area and are 48-2 over the last three seasons when scoring more points in the paint than the other team. Oklahoma's 15.1 offensive rebounds per game (28th NCAA) aid in OU's prolific paint scoring.

  • Oklahoma has been one of the most well-rounded teams in the nation and is one of two teams (K-State) to rank in the top 10 nationally in scoring offense (92.6 PPG, 4th), rebounding margin (+18.6, 2nd), FG% (50.0%, 7th) and FG% defense (32.7%, 8th). Four of the last five NCAA champions ranked in the top 15 of each category at the end of their title run.

  • Oklahoma's experienced roster draws plenty of attention, but it's no secret that the Sooners are also one of the most talented teams in the nation. The Sooners' starting five features three McDonald's All-Americans (Beers, Verhulst, Williams) while OU's remaining two starters include Skylar Vann, the 2024 Big 12 Player of the Year, and Tot, who is a two-time All-Big 12 honoree. Oklahoma doesn't just return talent - it returns experienced talent. The Sooners have combined to play over 1,000 games in their careers. The 14-player roster has amassed 481 combined starts.

  • In her debut season wearing the Crimson and Cream, All-American transfer Raegan Beers has made an immediate impact Heading into Tuesday, the dominant center averages 17.7 points on 72.5% shooting (1st NCAA) and adds 9.5 rebounds per game. She has secured five double-doubles in 10 games.

LAST TIME OUT

Raegan Beers had 14 points and 10 rebounds as No. 10 Oklahoma beat Oral Roberts 94-54 on Sunday. Zya Vann matched Beers by tying her career high with 14 points, and Payton Verhulst added 12 points and nine rebounds as Oklahoma (9-1) won its third straight game since losing in overtime to Duke on Nov. 27. The Sooners have now won 13 straight games at Lloyd Noble Center.

SERIES HISTORY

Tuesday night's nationally-televised matchup is the third all-time between Oklahoma and Michigan. The Sooners have won both previous meetings, both coming in Norman in 1993 and 2012. The 2012 matchup came in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, with 6-seeded OU defeating the Wolverines by 21 in former head coach Kevin Borseth's final game as the UM head coach.

Oklahoma is 48-45 all-time vs. B1G teams, with most of the wins (27) coming against Nebraska.

UP NEXT

The Sooners return to Norman to face Omaha on Dec. 22 at Lloyd Noble Center. Tip is set for 3 p.m. on SEC Network+.
