NORMAN ā The six-time national champion Oklahoma women's gymnastics team was tabbed as the No. 1 team in the preseason poll, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) announced Tuesday.
The Sooners received 42 first place votes for 1,963 points, while 2024 National Champion LSU finished second with 1,871 points and six first place votes. Florida is third with 1,806 points and five first place votes, California is fourth with 1,785 points and one first place vote and Utah rounds out the top five with 1,733 points and one first place vote.
This is the seventh time in program history that the Sooners were slated as the No. 1 team and 15th straight season in which OU has been ranked in the top five nationally to begin the year. 2025 marks the 12th consecutive season the Sooners have been ranked in the top three by the coaches. Prior to this season, OU was slated as the No. 1 team in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, 2023 and 2024, No. 2 in 2015, 2019 and 2021, No. 3 in 2014 and 2022, and No. 4 in 2011, 2012 and 2013.
OU has now opened 20 consecutive seasons ranked in the top 10 nationally and the last 24 years in the top 25. Since Coach Kindler's arrival in 2007, the Sooners have been ranked in the preseason top 10 every year.
The competitive slate has 14 of OU's regular season opponents ranked in the poll, including 12 in the top 25. The Sooners will face three of the top five teams in the second meet of the season in No. 2 LSU, No. 4 California and No. 5 Utah. The Sooners will face eight of the other nine teams ranked in the top 10 during the 2025 regular season with No. 10 UCLA being the lone exception.
The Sooners will host four top 10 teams at Lloyd Noble Center in No. 3 Florida (Feb. 21), No. 7 Kentucky (Feb. 7), No. 8 Arkansas (Jan. 31) and No. 9 Missouri (Jan. 17). Also coming to Norman is No. 13 Michigan (March 7).
OU will open the season with No. 17 Auburn, No. 23 Nebraska and No. 27 BYU at the Music City Collegiate Championship in Nashville, Tenn. The following weekend, the Sooners will look to defend their title at the Sprouts Collegiate Quad in a matchup featuring four of the top five teams.
The Sooners will travel to No. 6 Alabama (Jan. 24), No. 2 LSU (Feb. 14), No. 17 Auburn (Feb. 28) and No. 14 Georgia (March 14). OU will also face No. 36 North Carolina at the Metroplex Challenge in Fort Worth, Texas on Feb. 23. Ā
Coming off a record-breaking season in 2024, the 2025 squad returns individual national champions Audrey Davis and Faith Torrez alongside fellow All-Americans Jordan Bowers and Keira Wells.
Davis opted to use her extra year provided by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic to return for a fifth season. In addition to the returners, the Sooners brought in stellar freshmen Elizabeth Blessey, Addison Fatta, Elle Mueller, Lily Pederson, Kelsey Slade andĀ Hurley Snow.Ā
