PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. – Oklahoma women's golf finished eighth (45-over, 1,125) and sophomore Savannah Barber tied for sixth (5-under, 211) at the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links on Sunday.
Barber opened the Carmel Cup with rounds of 68 (-4) and 70 (-2), heading into the final 18 in fifth. The Fort Worth, Texas, product started the final round 1-under 35 on the front nine. Barber recorded four consecutive pairs on the back nine and dropped three strokes in her next four holes. She finished her round with a birdie on the par-5 18th, concluding the day 1-over 73.
"Savannah had a great week in an elite field," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "She worked really hard all summer and it's paying off. She has been able to keep her swing very simple and has realized great progress with her game."
Sophomore Emily Hun put together her best round of the three-day, 54-hole tournament, finishing 2-under 70 with five birdies. Hun fired a 3-under 33 through her first nine holes and recorded the second-best front nine score by a Sooner in the tournament.
She tallied her fourth birdie on the 10th hole and dropped a stroke on the 12th and 14th holes, moving to 2-under. Hun recorded her fifth and final birdie on the 15th and dropped back to 2-under after a bogey on the 16th.
In her first tournament in the Crimson and Cream, sophomore Isabelle Schlick tied for 33rd (9-over, 225) and matched Barber for the second-best score by a Sooner on Sunday, finishing 1-over 73 with birdies on the third and 13th holes.
Sophomores Gracie Mayo and Reagan Chaney each carded a 4-over 76. Chaney tied for 33rd (9-over, 225) and Mayo finished 46th (22-over, 238). Senior Nina Lang recorded a 10-over 82 to wrap up the tournament, finishing 47th (25-over, 241).
