NORMAN – The Oklahoma baseball team held its first team practice of the fall on Thursday at L. Dale Mitchell Park in preparation for its seventh season under head coach
Skip Johnson.
The Sooners finished the 2023 season at the NCAA Charlottesville Regional. It was OU's second straight NCAA Tournament appearance, third in five full seasons under Johnson (excluding the 2020 campaign shortened by the COVID-19 pandemic) and the 40th in program history.
Oklahoma baseball fall practices and scrimmages are open to the public. The Sooners will hold intrasquad scrimmages on Friday, Sept. 22 (practice begins at 2:45 p.m.) and Saturday, Sept. 23 (practice begins at 4:30 p.m.).
OU returned 17 players from the 2023 roster for the fall, and welcomed 25 newcomers. The newcomers are comprised of nine freshmen, seven Division I transfers and nine junior college transfers. The roster includes four catchers, 23 pitchers, 10 infielders and eight outfielders, including athletes who can play both infield and outfield.

Johnson brought in former OU player and Division I head coach
Todd Butler as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator, and hired former volunteer coach
Russell Raley as assistant coach. Associate head coach
Reggie Willits is back for his third year on staff with the Sooners.
