Tanner George Hired as Women's Golf Assistant Coach

August 09, 2023 | Women's Golf

NORMAN – University of Oklahoma women's golf head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell announced Wednesday the hiring of Tanner George as an assistant coach. George's hiring was made possible by an NCAA Division I Council decision in January to increase the number of countable coaches in select sports starting July 1.
Ā
George spent the previous 10 seasons as the head men's and women's golf coach at Sterling College. During his tenure with the Warriors, he set 40-plus records with both programs and coached 30 All-Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference tournament team honorees. Under George's tutelage, 16 Warriors earned KCAC All-Conference accolades and nine were named Cleveland/Srixon All-Americans.
Ā
"We are excited to add Tanner and his wealth of experience to our coaching staff," said Drouin-Luttrell. "He will be a great mentor to our current players and brings a unique perspective to the position since he coached both men's and women's golf programs at Sterling. He will be a great asset to our team and we are eager to have him and his family in Norman."
Ā
George led the men's program to 17 top-2 finishes, including seven tournament titles. The Warriors won the 2022 KCAC Golf Championship and made an appearance at the NAIA National Golf Championship, earning him KCAC Coach of the Year honors.

"I'm excited for this great opportunity to join the University of Oklahoma women's golf team as an assistant coach," said George. "OU is an amazing program with great facilities and tradition. I look forward to working with the special coaches and people around the program. I can't wait to get to Norman and get to work."
Ā
George has served as the KCAC Women's Golf Chair since 2019 and is Titleist Performance Institute (TPI) certified.
Ā
In addition to his success on the course, George helped the women's basketball program to a trio of conference championships (2020-21, 2021-22, 2022-23) and a pair of tournament titles in 2021 and 2022.
Ā
As a golfer at Sterling, he was a 2014 NAIA Academic All-American, 2013 Golf Coaches Association of American Cleveland/Srixon Academic All-American and a three-time KCAC Academic All-Conference honoree. George was twice named to the KCAC All-Conference team after the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons.
