Lorenz Ranked Fifth in Initial 2024 PGA Tour University Ranking

NORMAN – Oklahoma rising senior golfer Ben Lorenz debuted Wednesday at No. 5 in the initial 2024 PGA Tour University ranking, slotting him firmly in the mix for professional status following the conclusion of the 2023-24 golf season.
If he were to qualify through the program, Lorenz would become the nation-leading seventh player from Oklahoma to achieve professional status through PGA Tour University, which was established in 2021 to create a direct pathway from college to professional golf.
Lorenz, ranked No. 33 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), earned his first career All-America honor in 2023 after compiling six top-10 finishes in eight events, including a win at The Goodwin. The Peoria, Ariz., product finished third at the NCAA Norman Regional and earned a spot on the Big 12's All-Conference and All-Tournament teams. His scoring average of 70.20 (-0.88) was the seventh-best score vs. par in Oklahoma history.
PGA Tour University collaborates with the WAGR to rank the top senior golfers nationwide and provide a direct route to the professional circuit. At the end of each season, the top-ranked golfer earns PGA TOUR membership, while those ranked Nos. 2-5 gain full Korn Ferry Tour status. Players placed Nos. 6-10 obtain conditional KFT status and full status on PGA TOUR Americas. Golfers that finish between Nos. 11-20 receive no Korn Ferry status but are exempt on PGA TOUR Americas.
Oklahoma has emerged as a dominant force in PGA Tour University, producing six top-10 graduates in the program, the most in Division I golf. Notably, Garett Reband (No. 5), Quade Cummins (No. 6), and Jonathan Brightwell (No. 10) were among the qualifying graduates in 2021, followed by Logan McAllister (No. 3) and Chris Gotterup (No. 7) in 2022. Patrick Welch secured the No. 8 spot last season, earning conditional Korn Ferry Tour status.
Several returning Sooner golfers rank inside WAGR's top 100: No. 32 Drew Goodman, No. 33 Ben Lorenz, No. 74 Jake Holbrook, No. 119 Jase Summy and No. 133 Stephen Campbell Jr. Those five are paired with returners Jaxon Dowell, Jake Hopper, Luke Kluver and Matthew Troutman, who all saw action last year for OU. Head coach Ryan Hybl's 2023-24 roster will be completed by one of the nation's top signing classes that is comprised of two top-15 golfers in Ryder Cowan and PJ Maybank III, as well as Connor Henry who was a two-time Texas State SPC first-team selection.
