NORMAN — University of Oklahoma fifth-year senior
Braden Carmichael was named the Big 12 Pitcher of the Week after pitching a complete-game shutout against Oklahoma State on Friday night, the conference office announced Monday.
Carmichael registered his first career complete game at Oklahoma, leading the Sooners to a 5-0 victory over the Cowboys. He struck out five batters, allowed four hits and walked none, facing only four batters over the minimum. The Prosper, Texas, product accomplished the feat in just 96 pitches, 70 of which were strikes, completing a "Maddux" – a complete-game shutout in fewer than 100 pitches. His effort was OU's first complete game since Dane Acker pitched a no-hitter on March 1, 2020.
This is
Braden Carmichael's career Big 12 weekly honor and Oklahoma's fourth conference weekly award this season. Freshman catcher
Easton Carmichael was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on March 13 and junior shortstop
Dakota Harris was named Newcomer of the Week on March 20.
