NORMAN — Five University of Oklahoma baseball players –
Carson Atwood,
Carter Campbell,
Wallace Clark,
Sebastian Orduno and
Kendall Pettis – were named to the College Sports Communicators Division I Baseball All-District Team.
Atwood, Campbell, Clark, Orduno and Pettis are eligible to be selected to the CSC Academic All-America teams, which will be voted on by CSC members and announced at a later date. To qualify for the Academic All-District/All-America teams, student-athletes must have a cumulative 3.50 GPA and have competed in at least 50% of the team's competitions or have pitched at least 10.0 innings.
Atwood, a junior from Ardmore, Okla., is a human relations major and has carried a 3.55 GPA. He has appeared in 19 games and made two starts this season, pitching 23.1 innings. He has notched 16 strikeouts, one save and combined on one shutout. Atwood has made 57 career appearances and three starts in his three seasons, earning four victories on the mound.
Campbell, a redshirt junior from Keller, Texas, has a 3.54 GPA and is set to receive his degree in management this summer. He leads Oklahoma and ranks 10th nationally and first in the Big 12 with his 30 pitching appearances. He has posted a 6-4 record (tied for the team lead with his six wins) and earned one save this season, and is 9-4 in 61 appearances and 79.2 innings over his two seasons at OU.
Clark is a sophomore from Tulsa, Okla. He is majoring in finance with a 3.93 GPA, and this spring became the first baseball player to receive the OU Dan Gibbens Outstanding Scholar Athlete of the Year award. He has played in 87 career games and made 77 starts (39 games and 35 starts this season), and has registered 43 RBIs and 51 runs scored, along with 12 doubles, two triples and 58 walks in his two years at Oklahoma.
Orduno, a redshirt junior from San Pedro, Calif., has a 3.64 GPA in multidisciplinary studies. He has played in 76 games and made 49 starts over his two seasons with the Sooners, recorded seven doubles, 21 RBIs, 28 runs scored, 38 walks and four stolen bases. Orduno has notched 21 hits, scored 18 runs and stolen 13 bases in 33 games (24 starts) this year.
Pettis, a fourth-year junior from Chicago, is a criminology major and carries a 3.50 GPA. He is having a career season on the field, batting .336 with six doubles, three triples and 42 runs, to go along with 19 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. He has registered 120 career hits, 117 career runs scored and 45 career steals.
Oklahoma plays host to Oklahoma State in the Bedlam series, presented by Phillips 66, this weekend at L. Dale Mitchell Park. Game times are set for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, 6:30 p.m. Friday and 4 p.m. Sunday.
