May 10, 2023 | Women's Golf

ATHENS, Ga. – Oklahoma women's golfer Mikhaela Fortuna concluded the Athens Regional with a 2-under 70 and tied for 11th at UGA Golf Course on Wednesday.

Fortuna finished the three-day event 1-over 217 and was the fourth-highest ranked individual on a non-advancing team. Kent State's Leon Takagi advanced to the NCAA Championship as an individual.

"She had a great day and an even better finish," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "We knew she had to play strong coming down the stretch and she gave herself some really good looks."

The Manila, Philippines, product dropped a pair of strokes in her first three holes and recorded a bogey on the ninth, finishing the front nine 3-over 38.

Fortuna tallied her first birdie on the 11th, moving to 2-over. She recorded three-consecutive pars and drained her second birdie on the 15th.

Fortuna concluded the event with a birdie and an eagle, finishing her last nine holes 5-under 32.

"Mikhela has had a fantastic career and I'm so proud of everything she has done for our program" said Drouin-Luttrell. "She came to Norman as a shy 17-year old kid and is leaving with a college degree and so much confidence. We loved having her on our team and can't wait to see what is next for her."

Fortuna tied for the tournament lead on par-5 holes, finishing 8-under and with a 4.33 scoring average. She was one of eight golfers to record an eagle in the event and her 11 birdies ranked ninth.

Georgia (13-under, 851), South Carolina (11-under, 853), San Jose State (14-over, 878), Ole Miss (17-over 881) and Augusta (21-over 885) were the top-five teams and advanced to the NCAA Championships.
