Sooners Earn Spot In Big 12 Championship

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The No. 14 Oklahoma women's tennis team battled back to take the 4-3 victory over No. 11 Iowa State to advance to the championship on Saturday night.

The Cyclones were first on the board after taking the doubles point. No. 64 Ange Oby Kajuru and Xinyi Nong defeated No. 43 Layne Sleeth and Alexandra Pisareva on court two, 6-3. No. 10 Carmen and Ivana Corley took the 6-3 ranked win against No. 52 Thasaporn Naklo and Anna Supapitch Kuearum at the top court.

Sofia Cabezas and Miska Kadleckova clinched the doubles point over Julia Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman on court three, 7-6 (3).

No. 52 Sleeth got the ball rolling for OU with a 6-3, 6-3 top-court win against No. 67 Naklo. ISU's Kuearum claimed the Cyclones' first singles win with a 6-2, 1-6, 6-2 score over Pisareva on court four. Garcia Ruiz tied the match at the No. 5 spot after taking down Sofia Cabezas 7-5, 0-6, 6-2. Iowa State tied it up once again on court six after Chie Kezuka claimed court six over Emma Staker, 7-6 (6), 1-6, 6-1.

To send OU to the championship match, No. 93 Guzman battled back to force a third set and clinch the victory against No. 78 Ange Oby Kajuru on court two, 0-6, 7-6 (5), 7-5.
