DALLAS – Mikhaela Fortuna tied for third and was one of four golfers to finish under par, and the Oklahoma women's golf team concluded the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship in sixth place with a 30-over-par 894 at the Dallas Athletic Club on Sunday.
Fortuna fired a 1-under 215 and finished three strokes behind Oklahoma State's Maddison Hinson-Tolchard, who captured the individual title. Fortuna's top-10 finish earned her a spot on the Big 12 Women's Golf Championship All-Tournament Team. The third-place finish was the highest of her career, eclipsing her fourth-place finishes at the 2021 and 2022 Jim West Challenge.
"Mikhaela had a great event and I'm so proud of her," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach
Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "She put herself in contention and played well. She has been a great player for us the last five years and has grown so much as a person and golfer since she first came to Norman."
Fortuna concluded the first nine holes with a 2-over 38 and tallied her first birdie of the round on the eighth. She recorded another birdie on the 10th hole and moved into a tie for first after consecutive birdies on the 13th and 14th holes. Fortuna concluded the event with three consecutive bogeys.
Savannah Barber and
Reagan Chaney tied for 23rd, each finishing with an 8-over 224. The duo each fired a 2-over 38 on the front nine and finished the round with two birdies apiece. Chaney recorded a 5-over 77 and Barber tallied a 6-over 78.
Kaylee Vesely was the first Sooner to record a birdie in the final round, moving to 1-under on the third hole. Vesely finished the round with an 11-over 83 and tied for 36th (16-over 232).
Emily Hun finished 44th (22-over 238) and concluded the event with an 11-over 83. The Sooners recorded a 24-over 312 on Sunday.
Fortuna ranked fifth with 36 pars in the 54-hole tournament and was one of 15 golfers with 10-plus birdies. Chaney was one of six golfers to record an eagle (Saturday) in the event.
