BALTIMORE — Junior
Kelsey Carrington attended the annual NCAA Student-Athlete Leadership Forum last week, April 13-16. Consisting of two candidates selected from each conference at the Division I, Division II, and Division III levels, Carrington joined Kansas Football defensive lineman Tommy Dunn Jr. as the two representatives of the Big 12 Conference.
"The NCAA Leadership Forum in Baltimore was an incredible opportunity that I was fortunate to be able to take part in," Carrington said. "Within the forum, I had the opportunity to network with other attendees and meet new people from different schools, sports and backgrounds. Throughout the event, I was involved in a variety of group activities and discussions that pushed me to come out of my comfort zone and challenged me to be vulnerable."
The forum is an annual event that brings together student-athletes, coaches, and administrators from all divisions and universities across the United States. The purpose of the forum is to provide attendees with the opportunity to gain valuable life experience in the areas of leadership and personal development, the importance of mental health, and involvement in the local community.
The four-day forum included a series of keynote speeches, panel discussions, group sharing, and workshops led by facilitators in the field of leadership development. Throughout the event, attendees addressed topics such as effective communication, team building, goal setting and mental health.
"I truly cannot begin to put into words how special and transformational this opportunity was," Carrington stated. "From the people in my small group to the facilitators and speakers, and everyone in between, the connections that were developed are ones that will stay with me for a lifetime."
