OU Plays Midweek Bedlam at OSU Tuesday

First Pitch

• Oklahoma (19-18) travels to Stillwater for a non-conference game against Oklahoma State (24-13) in the first Bedlam matchup of the season. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at O'Brate Stadium.
• The Sooners and Cowboys will play their Big 12 conference series May 18-20 at L. Dale Mitchell Park in Norman to conclude the regular season. 
• Oklahoma is celebrating its 125th anniversary season in 2023. The program was established in 1898, and OU has competed in 118 seasons since (including 2023).

• Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have met 311 times. OSU leads the series 165-146.
• The Sooners and Cowboys split four games last season; OU won the non-conference meeting in Tulsa (7-6 on March 29), and OSU won two of three contests in the Big 12 series in Stillwater (OU won 8-7; OSU won 8-7 and 9-4).
• OU is 2-3 vs. OSU at O'Brate Stadium, and 30-34 all-time against OSU in Stillwater.  

Leading Off

• Oklahoma is in its sixth season under the direction of head coach Skip Johnson (including the 2020 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson, who spent the 2017 season on staff as an assistant coach, has led the Sooners to a 176-122 record, two NCAA Tournament appearances, the 2022 Big 12 tournament championship and the 2022 College World Series finals since taking over as head coach prior to the 2018 season.
• Oklahoma ranks ninth nationally and third in the Big 12 with its 216 walks, and ranks 17th nationally and fourth in the Big 12 with its 78 stolen bases. OU batters have also been hit by a pitch 46 times, totaling 262 free passes (an average of 7.1 free passes per game).
• The Sooners also rank fourth nationally with their 27 sacrifice flies (second in the Big 12 to nation-leading 32 by Texas Tech) and 20th nationally with 13 triples (second in Big 12; league leader Texas Tech has 15 triples).
• Junior right fielder Bryce Madron has registered a nation-leading 42 walks in the season's first 37 games. He also ranks fourth nationally and second in the Big 12 by averaging 1.2 walks per contest. Freshman catcher Easton Carmichael is tied for the Big 12 lead, tied for 14th nationally and ranks second among catchers with his four triples. Junior infielder Anthony Mackenzie ranks 30th nationally and third in the Big 12 with his 19 stolen bases (in 22 attempts). Junior Carter Campbell is fifth nationally and first in the Big 12 with his 22 pitching appearances (national leaders have made 24 appearances). 
• Mackenzie and Madron have each reached base in 28 straight contests. Carmichael leads the team with 12 multiple-hit games, Mackenzie, Madron and junior infielder Dakota Harris each have 11 multiple-hit games, and sophomore John Spikerman and freshman Rocco Garza-Gongora each have 10. Carmichael leads the team with 10 multiple-RBI games while Harris and sophomore second baseman Jackson Nicklaus each have eight.
• The Sooners have registered 79 stolen bases in 101 attempts (78%) through the first 37 games of the season. Last year, OU registered 145 steals, the most by an Oklahoma club since 1989 (168 steals).
• Carmichael leads the team with 34 RBIs and is batting .325 (39 for 120). He has thrown out seven baserunners stealing. Mackenzie is batting .331 (48 for 145) and leads the team with 36 runs scored. Fourth-year junior outfielder Kendall Pettis is batting .330 (31 for 94) with 30 runs scored, five doubles, 21 walks and 11 stolen bases. He has hit .390 (23 for 59) with 17 runs, four doubles, a triple, a home run and seven steals in his last 16 games (15 starts) since March 19.
• Harris leads the Sooners with a .347 batting average (33 for 95), and has six doubles, four homers and 28 RBIs in 23 games, despite missing 14 games with an injury. Nicklaus (six doubles, three triples, six homers) and Madron (eight doubles, one triple, six homers) lead OU with 15 extra base hits. Spikerman has 13 extra base hits (11 doubles, one triple, one homer).
