Conference Play Begins in Texas

NORMAN - The No. 20 Oklahoma women's tennis team begins Big 12 play on the road with two matches in the Lone Star State. The Sooners will face No. 12 Texas in Austin on Friday, March 10, followed by Baylor in Waco on Sunday, March 12.

LAST TIME OUT

OU notched its seventh sweep of the season after defeating Wichita State 7-0 on Sunday afternoon.

The Sooners opened the match by claiming their 13th doubles point of the season.Ā Julia Garcia RuizĀ andĀ Dana GuzmanĀ were first to finish as they shutout Harriet Hamilton and Theodora Chantava on court three, 6-0. No. 12Ā Alexandra PisarevaĀ andĀ Layne SleethĀ clinched the opening point on court two, defeating Lingwei Kong and Natsumi Kurahashi 6-1.

Garcia Ruiz grabbed the first singles win on court six, taking down Hamilton 6-0, 6-2. Extending the lead, Sleeth secured the 6-0, 6-3 win at the top court against Kong. No. 82 Guzman clinched OU's ninth win of the season with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Kurahashi on court two.

The match played out and gave the remaining three courts a chance to tally another win. Pisareva was next to take the victory, defeating Kudryavtseva 6-4, 6-4 at the No. 4 spot.Ā Emma StakerĀ added another point for the Sooners as she grabbed the 6-1, 6-4 court-five win. To finish the sweep,Ā Carmen CorleyĀ took down Anzo 6-4, 6-3 on court three.

IN THE RANKINGS

Oklahoma currently has two players in the singles rankings and two pairs in doubles: No. 86 Dana Guzman, No. 97 Carmen Corley, No. 8 Alexandra Pisareva and Layne Sleeth, and No. 32 Carmen and Ivana Corley.

Texas has three in singles and one in doubles: No. 58 Charlotte Chavatipon, No. 91 Marlee Zein, No. 101 Sabina Zeynalova, No. 27 Chavatipon and Zeynalova.

Baylor's squad is highlighted by No. 92 Isabella Harvison in the singles rankings.
