MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Oklahoma baseball offense exploded for six runs in the fourth inning and the Sooners held a 7-3 advantage after seven, but ultimately fell in the series finale to Kansas State 8-7 on Sunday afternoon at Tointon Family Stadium.
Down 3-0 after back-to-back home runs by Cole Johnson and Raphael Pelletier in the second inning, the OU (13-11, 2-4 Big 12) offense came alive in the fourth.
Freshman left fielder Rocco Garza-Gongore opened the inning with a double to right center. The bases were loaded after back-to-back walks by sophomore center fielder
John Spikerman and redshirt junior first baseman
Sebastian Orduno. Freshman catcher
Easton Carmichael, who tallied two RBI in the Saturday contest, tallied a sacrifice fly to right that allowed Garza-Gongora to score. Junior right fielder
Bryce Madron crushed a ball to right that popped out of the right fielder's glove at the warning track, scoring Spikerman for the second run in as many at bats.
Following a Kansas State (17-8, 4-2 Big 12) pitching change, sophomore third baseman
Wallace Clark and sophomore second baseman
Jackson Nicklaus each singled to score Orduno and Madron, respectively. Redshirt junior designated hitter
Kendall Pettis continued the scoring onslaught with a sacrifice fly that sent Clark to the plate. Junior shortstop
Anthony Mackenzie singled to right, scoring Nickalus from second to reach the Sooners' six run tally.
OU added an additional run in the seventh inning on a Spikerman sacrifice fly.
With a 7-3 advantage, Oklahoma held the Kansas State offense scoreless in the seventh, but the Wildcat bats found their rhythm in the eighth.
After a fly out opened the inning, K-State loaded the bases after two walks and a double. Cash Rugly laced a two-RBI single to left field and Pelletier doubled down the right field line, scoring the final two runs of the inning.
With momentum on its side, K-State opened the ninth with a walk and had runners on first and second after a successful bunt. Dom Hughes' bunt attempt bounced back to the OU reliever, who proceeded to throw out the advancing runner at third. Nick Goodwin drew the four pitch walk and loaded the bases. In the next and final at bat, Brady Day laced a deep fly ball to right, allowing the walk-off K-State victory.

James Hitt pitched 5.0 innings and held K-State scoreless after the second inning. Junior reliever
Carter Campbell earned the loss (2-2) and KSU's Tyson Neighbors improved to 3-1.
Madron and Clark finished 2 for 4 at the plate.
