February 08, 2023 | Volleyball

NORMAN — New Oklahoma head volleyball coach Aaron Mansfield announced the addition of Texas State transfer Daleigh Ellison (DAY-lee) for the 2023 season. Ellison, a 5-11 outside hitter, has joined the Sooners this semester after playing the last three seasons at Texas State.

"We are really excited to add Daleigh to our program," said Mansfield, who was hired at OU on Dec. 22. "She is a very dynamic athlete who has already shown how committed she is to learn and make changes in the short period of time she's been at OU."

At Texas State, Ellison shined in the classroom with her 3.5+ GPA during the 2021-22 academic year and was named to the Sun Belt Commissioner's List and 2022 Texas State Dean's List. On the court with the Bobcats, she appeared in 38 sets over 26 matches played, tallying 32 kills, 13 digs and 10 block assists. During her freshman campaign, she appeared in 14 sets and totaled 13 kills, six digs and a block. Her best match of the 2020 season was against Little Rock (Oct. 23) when she logged a career-high four kills and a block. After sitting out due to injury in 2021, Ellison came back for her junior campaign and appeared in 24 sets and 15 matches played.

"I chose Oklahoma because of the successful culture that surrounds campus, both athletically and in the classroom," Ellison said. "I look forward to learning and growing as a person both on and off the court while playing at OU."

Prior to Texas State, Ellison was a three-year letterman at Aledo High School under head coach Claire Gaye. Ellison helped the Bearcats post a 95-48 overall record and 27-3 mark in district play, including respective 29-17 and 8-0 records her senior season. The Max Preps All-American was also named District 4-5A MVP, All-Parker County MVP and a 5-6A Legacy All-Star, and was named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) 5A All-State Team, 5A All-Star Team and All-Texas Team. She was also a 2019 All-Area Player of the Year nominee.

Ellison also played club volleyball for TAV, where she competed in the 2019 USAV Girls Junior National Championships (GJNC) and was honored as the 2019 GJNC MVP. In the classroom, she was an Academic All-State selection and was named to Texas Association of Volleyball Coaches (TAVC) All-Academic list.

A native of Aledo, Texas, Ellison intends to major in marketing at OU. She is the daughter of Monte and Julie Ellison, and has three siblings, Colt, Skylar and Makena. Her brother Colt was a defensive lineman for TCU's football team from 2019-22 and her sister Skylar is a freshman middle blocker on Arkansas' volleyball team.
