Shelton Named to All-Big 12 Second Team

November 28, 2023 | Volleyball

NORMAN – Sophomore Alexis Shelton was named to the 2023 All-Big 12 second-team, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon. Shelton's second-team honor is the second of her career after being named to the Big 12 All-Rookie team in 2022.

The Charlotte, N.C., native had a breakout season in 2023, leading the team with 400 kills and a 4.26 kill/set mark. Shelton is just the fifth Sooner to achieve a 400-kill season in the 25-point rally scoring era and the first since 2018. She posted a career-high 30 kills against Notre Dame on Sept. 9, the first Sooner since Kierra Holst in 2014 to record 30 kills in a match.

In 25 matches played, Shelton tallied 20-plus kills on eight occasions and double-digit kills in 21 of 25 matches. She recorded two double-doubles on the year, finishing the season with 97 digs. She posted 55 total blocks, ranking second on the team. Shelton also notched seven service aces.

In conference play, Shelton ranked fourth with 4.22 kills per set and third in overall matches at 4.26 kills/set. Her 30 total kills against Notre Dame were the third-highest output among Big 12 athletes.

Shelton was named to the Ball State Invitational and Irish Invitational All-Tournament Teams, while also earning the Ball State Invitational MVP honor.

Shelton's conference honor marks the 18th-straight year the Sooners have earned at least one spot on the All-Big 12 teams.
