Men's Hoops Heads to San Diego for Rady Children's Invitational

NORMAN – Oklahoma opens the Rady Children's Invitational against Iowa on Thursday, Nov. 23. Tip is at 2:02 p.m. CT inside LionTree Arena in San Diego, Calif. The non-conference contest will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Chad McKee and Kevin Henry announcing and be broadcast by FS1 with Aaron Goldsmith (PxP) and Casey Jacobsen (analyst) on the call.

OPENING TIP

• With OU's 90-66 victory over UTRGV on Friday, Nov. 17, the Sooners improved to 4-0 for the second time in three seasons under the direction of Porter Moser. In 2021-22, OU opened the season 4-0 before falling to Utah State in the Myrtle Beach Invitational championship game.

• Junior Javian McCollum ranks 11th among NCAA DI active career leaders in free throw percentage (87.7%). In 55 career games, McCollum has made 143 free throws in 163 attempts.

• Oklahoma and Iowa are two of 26 NCAA DI men's basketball programs whose head coach has a son on the roster. Porter Moser and junior Jake Moser will compete against Iowa head coach Fran McCaffery and redshirt senior Patrick McCaffery.

LAST TIME OUT

• Redshirt junior John Hugley IV recorded a season-high 16 points and led five Sooners with double-digit points in Oklahoma's 90-66 victory over UTRGV on Friday, Nov. 17 at Lloyd Noble Center. In addition to Hugley, senior Rivaldo Soares (15), sophomore Otega Oweh (14), senior Le'Tre Darthard (13) and McCollum (11) each finished in double figures. Senior Sam Godwin wrangled a career-high 12 boards and Oweh and Soares dished out a team-best four assists.

• With the score knotted at 25, Oklahoma scored the next 10 points and finished the first half with a 22-8 advantage over the final 8-plus minutes. OU led 62-52 with nine minutes left and doubled its advantage over the next five minutes. The Sooners bench combined for 44 points, including efforts by Hugley, Soares and Darthard.

• Oklahoma ranks in the top 50 nationally in 13 categories. The Sooners are eighth in scoring margin (33.0 PPG), ninth in scoring defense (55.5 PPG), 13th in rebound margin (14.2 RPG), 15th in three-point percentage defense (23.1%), 17th in bench points per game (37.50), 19th in field goal percentage defense (35.0%), 20th in free throw percentage (79.6%), 23rd in free throws made per game (19.5), 34th in field goal percentage (51.0%), 36th in blocks per game (5.5 BPG), 40th in effective field goal percentage (57.7%), 41st in rebounds per game (43.5 RPG) and 44th in defensive rebounds per game (30.0 RPG).

2022 HOLIDAY TOURNAMENT

• Oklahoma won the 2022 ESPN Events Invitational last season, beating Nebraska, Seton Hall and Ole Miss. The Sooners opened the tournament with a 69-56 victory over the Huskers and advanced to the championship game with a 77-64 win against Seton Hall. OU capped the tournament with a 59-55 victory over Ole Miss. Grant Sherfield was named tournament MVP, averaging 15.7 points and 5.3 assists per contest.

SOPHOMORE SEASON

• Oweh appeared in 28 games and made nine starts in 2022-23, tallying 134 points, 59 rebounds and 33 steals. In four games this season, Oweh has recorded 61 points, 21 rebounds and nine steals. The Newark, N.J., product has buried three 3-pointers, improving on the one made triple last season. Oweh has tallied three 10-plus point games in four outings this season and has nearly matched his four double-digit point games last season.
