NORMAN –
Oklahoma is set for one final tune-up before it begins the 2023-24 season as it hosts West Texas A&M on Tuesday night in an exhibition at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman.
Tip is slated for 6 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and Pooh Williamson on the call.
Doors to the arena open one hour before tip and the Lloyd Noble Center's
clear-bag policy is in effect. Admission to the game is free for all fans, and season tickets are on sale for as little as $99.
Sooner fans can celebrate Halloween at the arena, as members from other Oklahoma teams will pass out candy on the concourse. Fans are encouraged to dress up and wear their costumes, but fans in costume must be able to remove any mask, hood, helmet, or any other element of the costume that obscures the face prior to security screening. Real or realistic-looking weapons are prohibited. Costumes should be family appropriate and without offensive language or content.
QUICK NOTES
- The contest marks the first showing for third-year head coach Jennie Baranczyk's team that features four newcomers and 10 returners. Preseason All-Big 12 selection Skylar Vann headlines the roster and is the back-to-back Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year. Vann is joined by Nevaeh Tot, Liz Scott, Aubrey Joens, Beatrice Culliton (2023 All-Big 12 Freshman Team) and Kennady Tucker as players who played in every game last season.
- The Sooners, who won a share of their first conference championship since 2009 last season, will look to replace the trio of Madi Williams, Taylor Robertson and Ana Llanusa who combined to score 6,370 points in their OU careers. The All-Big 12 trio combined for 38.8 points, 12.5 rebounds and 8.5 assists per game in their senior seasons.
- The Sooners open the season ranked 23rd in the WBCA/USA Today poll and are unranked in the preseason AP poll. Oklahoma's streak of 15 consecutive weeks ranked in the AP poll came to an end with its omission from the preseason poll. The streak lasted from Dec. 5, 2022 to March 13, 2023.
- The Sooners appear in the latest version (Sept. 19) of Charlie Creme's ESPN Bracketology as a No. 10 seed. A staple of the NCAA postseason, Oklahoma has appeared in 23 NCAA Tournaments, including 21 since the turn of the century and back-to-back berths under Baranczyk. The Sooners' 23 appearances in the tournament are the second most in the Big 12 Conference and the 23rd most in NCAA history.
- One of the nation's most prolific offenses over the last two seasons, Oklahoma averaged 84.2 points last season (2nd NCAA) and 82.6 PPG the season before (3rd NCAA). The Sooners join Iowa as the only teams in the nation to average 85.0 PPG in each of the last two years.
SERIES HISTORY
Tuesday night's game marks just the third meeting all-time between Oklahoma and West Texas A&M, and the first since 1987. The Sooners have won both of the previous meetings and are 1-0 vs. WTAMU in Norman.
