Sooners Finish Fourth, Barber and Schlick in Top 10 at Jim West Challenge

SAN MARCOS, Texas – Sophomore Savannah Barber tied for fourth (13-under, 203), and sophomore Isabelle Schlick tied for ninth (9-under, 207) as the Oklahoma women's golf team finished fourth (20-under, 844) at the Jim West Challenge at Kissing Tree Golf Club on Monday.
The Sooners opened the tournament with 36 holes on Sunday, Oct. 22, tallying rounds of 282-286 and entering the final 18 in seventh. OU fired a 12-under 276 to wrap up the event.
Schlick drained eight birdies and no bogeys in the third round, firing an 8-under 64. Her third-round score tied for the second-lowest individual round score in program history. The Bad Homburg, Germany, product recorded rounds of 70-73-64 and tied for ninth, marking her first top-10 finish in the Crimson and Cream.
"I'm really proud of both Isabelle and Savannah, and the great week they put together," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach Veronqiue Drouin-Luttrell. "As a team, we have been very close the last few rounds. We put together a good tournament and it is rewarding. We are going to continue to trust the process and push each other to get better."
Barber fired rounds of 69-65-69 and tied for fourth, earning her first top-5 finish at Oklahoma. The Fort Worth, Texas product continued her dominant stretch to open the third round, improving to 3-under through five after a birdie on the 10th and eagle on the 11th hole. Barber tallied a bogey on the 13th and ended the back nine with birdies on the 14th and 18th holes. She moved back to 3-under after a setback on the second hole and responded with her fourth and final birdie on the third. Barber ended her round with two pars and a bogey.
Senior Nina Lang tallied rounds of 72-73-71 and tied for 34th with an even-par 216. Lang opened the final round on the ninth and recorded a pair of birdies on the 14th and 16th holes, finishing the back nine 2-under 34. The Ingolstadt, Germany, product improved to 3-under through 11 with a birdie on the first hole. After four consecutive pars, Lang dropped a pair of strokes on the sixth and seventh holes.
Junior Reagan Chaney recorded rounds of 71-75-72 and tied for 45th with a 2-over 218. Chaney started her final 18 on the 10th and dropped a stroke on the 11th. The Ardmore, Okla., product responded with birdies on the 14th and 18th holes, finishing the back nine 1-under 35. Chaney dropped a pair of strokes with bogeys on the first and third holes and responded with an eagle on the par-5 fifth hole. She ended the tournament with three pars and a bogey on the eighth.
Freshman Holly McLean tied for 68th (20-over, 236) and recorded a 2-over 74 to wrap up the event. McLean started her round on the 10th and moved to 2-over through three with bogeys on the 11th and 12th holes. She drained her lone birdie on the 15th and finished the back nine 1-over 37. McLean recorded six pars to open the front nine and suffered a one-stroke setback on the seventh. She ended her round with a pair of pars.
Sophomore Gracie Mayo competed as an individual and tallied rounds of 74-74-69, tying for 42nd with a 1-over 217. Mayo recorded four birdies, including three to open the back nine. Her lone bogey occurred on the par-3 second hole.
