NORMAN — Oklahoma wide receiver
Nic Anderson was named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after registering five catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns in OU's 31-29 win over UCF on Saturday, the league office announced Monday.
This is Anderson's second conference newcomer award this season. The redshirt freshman also won it on Sept. 18 after he notched 120 yards and three touchdowns on three receptions at Tulsa.
On Saturday, Anderson scored touchdowns of 29 yards and 42 yards and helped the Sooners improve to 7-0 overall and 4-0 in Big 12 play. The Katy, Texas, product now has eight touchdown catches on the season on 16 total receptions. The 50% rate of receiving touchdowns is the highest nationally (min. 5 receiving TDs). Only one FBS player since the start of the 1996 campaign finished a season with a higher rate of receiving TDs (min. 8 receiving TDs).
Anderson ranks second nationally this year with his 24.2 yards per catch and leads the Big 12 with his eight touchdown receptions. All eight of his TD catches have come since Sept. 16, tying him for the most nationally during the period.
The Sooners have earned six Big 12 accolades this season. In addition to Anderson's honors, redshirt senior quarterback
Dillon Gabriel was named Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 18 and Oct. 9, sophomore wide receiver
Gavin Freeman was named Co-Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 4 and junior linebacker
Danny Stutsman was named Defensive Player of the Week on Sept. 11.
