LAWRENCE, Kan. – The Oklahoma volleyball team fell to No. 16 Kansas in three sets, 25-20, 25-21, 25-18 Saturday afternoon inside Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.
Alexis Shelton and Taylor Preston led the offense with 14 kills apiece. Lydia Burts chipped in seven, with Kelsey Carrington and Hannah Pfiffner each adding four.
Payton Chamberlain recorded 41 assists, four digs and three blocks on the afternoon. Callie Kemohah notched 13 digs and Mele Corral-Blagojevich tallied six.
After a 4-0 Kansas run, the Sooners called timeout trailing 13-9. The Jayhawks extended their lead, 20-14, before a kill from Pfiffner ended the run. OU cut the deficit to four late in the first, but Kansas took the set 25-20.
Preston's sixth kill of the day pulled the Sooners within one at 4-3 early in the second. The Jayhawks used a 4-0 run to push their lead out to 7-3. The Sooners closed the gap off a kill from Burts to make it 11-8. At the first timeout, Kansas led 15-11, but the Sooners found themselves within one, 17-16. Kansas pushed their lead to 22-17 before taking the set, 25-21.
The Sooners held the a 12-11 advantage before a 4-0 scoring run put Kansas up 15-12 at the media timeout. Kansas would take the final set, 25-18.
OU will welcome Kansas State to Norman for a pair of matches Oct. 19-20 inside McCasland Field House.
