Oklahoma Returns to Norman For Game vs. TCU Tuesday

January 30, 2023 | Women's Basketball

NORMAN  The 20th-ranked Oklahoma women's basketball team will try to snap its two-game skid Tuesday when it plays host to TCU (6-14, 0-9) at Lloyd Noble Center in Norman. The Sooners enter the contest in third place in the Big 12 standings, one game back of Iowa State and Texas. Tip on Tuesday is set for 6 p.m. and then game will air on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and Pooh Williamson on the call.

Admission to Tuesday's game will be free as part of OU's Fan Appreciation Night. Following the contest, Oklahoma invites fans to stay to celebrate Taylor Robertson, who broke the NCAA career 3-point record over the weekend.

THE STARTING FIVE

  • The Sooners have the country's No. 3 scoring offense, pouring in 85.4 points per game powered by a 20.4 assists (3rd NCAA) per game. The Sooners' 1.27 assist/turnover ratio ranks 13th nationally as the Crimson and Cream's 8.9 3-pointers per game are 10th most in the country. The Sooners have scored at least 88 points 11 times this season, four of which came vs. Big 12 teams.

  • The last time Oklahoma took the court, Sooner guard Taylor Robertson broke the NCAA career 3-point record, breaking Kelsey Mitchell's record of 497. Robertson made six 3-pointers in the contest, and became the first woman to make 500 career treys. She has made a 3-pointer in a conference record 62 straight games and is the NCAA active career leader in 3-pointers, 3-point field goal percentage and ranks in the top five in free throw percentage and points. Although she had an extra year, Robertson set the 3-point record in 138 games, compared to Mitchell's 139.

  • Oklahoma is one of two schools (Vermont) in Division I to start the same starting five in every game this season. The Sooners have let Nevaeh Tot, Ana Llanusa, Madi Williams, Taylor Robertson and Liz Scott hear their named called before each contest. The five have combined for 462 career starts, and each player has a winning record as a starter. The experience is highlighted by Taylor Robertson's 137 starts and Madi Williams' 128. Robertson needs just four more starts to break Danielle Robinson's program record of 140.

  •  Oklahoma's 20.3 assists per game rank third nationally behind UConn and Drake. The Sooners ranked fourth in the NCAA last season with 18.9 assists per game and are looking to improve on that mark this season. Oklahoma's assist/turnover ratio of 1.27 is 13th nationally and would set a school record, easily besting last year's 1.00 ratio which set a new OU standard.

  • The leading candidate for Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year again this season, Vann is the only player in the country to average 10.5 points and 7.0 rebounds without a start this season. Her 11 games of double-digit points are the second most in the country among bench players

SERIES HISTORY

Oklahoma has matched up with TCU 37 times, holding a 26-11 series advantage - the program's most lopsided conference series. The Sooners have been dominant vs. the Frogs in Norman, amassing a 15-3 record at Lloyd Noble Center, but TCU has won three of the last four meetings in Norman.

The Sooners dominated TCU in Fort Worth earlier this year, knocking off the Frogs 93-66.

KNOW YOUR FOE

TCU (6-14, 0-9) is winless in Big 12 play, but played its closest conference game thus far in its last time out, dropping a 72-65 contest to West Virginia. The get to the free throw line more than any team in the Big 12, shooting 21.5 free throws per game, but rank last in the league in free throw percentage (64.2%). They are the only team in the league with a negative scoring margin, losing by an average of six points.

LAST TIME OUT

Taylor Robertson tied Kelsey Mitchell's NCAA career 3-point record of 497 made treys, but it wasn't enough as No. 14 Oklahoma fell on the road to Texas, 78-58, in Austin on Wednesday night. Robertson sunk a pair of 3-pointers in the first quarter that pushed her into a tie atop the NCAA annals, but Oklahoma (16-3, 6-2 Big 12) shot just 22% (7-of-32) in the second half as Texas (15-6, 6-2 Big 12) pulled away. After the defeat, the Sooners moved into a first-place tie in the Big 12 with the Longhorns and No. 18 Iowa State.

UP NEXT
