Women's Tennis Advances To Championship

NORMAN - The No. 17 Oklahoma women's tennis team swept Minnesota, 4-0, Saturday in its first match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend to advance to the championship.
The Sooners will face Texas Tech on Saturday at 2 p.m. CT, with the victor qualifying for the ITA National Indoor Championships in Seattle, Wash., Feb. 10-12.
Due to Minnesota having five eligible players, OU automatically claimed court three in doubles and Emma Staker and Romana Cisovska were credited the win. Needing only one court to clinch the opening point, Carmen and Ivana Corley took down Anet Koskel and Lucy Lu, 6-2, at the top court.
When play was halted, Julia Garcia Ruiz and Dana Guzman were down 2-4 on court two against Zoey Weil and Zeyneb Sarioglan.
OU went into singles with the automatic 2-0 lead due to court six being forfeited. No. 91 Carmen Corley defeated Koskel at the top court, 6-0, 6-1 and Layne Sleeth clinched the match in a 6-2, 6-2 fashion over Weil on court two.
When play was halted, Staker was up 6-3, 4-1 over Lu on court three, Garcia Ruiz led Aiva Schmitz 6-0, 4-3 at the No. 4 spot and Cisovska had the 6-4, 4-1 lead over Sarioglan on court five.
