NORMAN – Coming off the program's 11th NCAA College World Series appearance and a Big 12 tournament championship, the Oklahoma baseball team began fall workouts this month in preparation for the 2023 spring season.
The Sooners finished the 2022 season as national runner-up reaching the CWS finals for the third time in program history (and first since 1994) and are entering their sixth year under the direction of head coach
Skip Johnson.
OU baseball fall practices and scrimmages are open to the public. The Sooners will hold intrasquad scrimmages in the coming week at 4 p.m. Friday (Sept. 30), noon Saturday (Oct. 1), 4 p.m. Tuesday (Oct. 4) and 3:30 p.m. Wednesday (Oct. 5) and Thursday (Oct. 6). A fall intrasquad World Series will be held Oct. 30, Nov. 1 and Nov. 4. Potential exhibition scrimmages against outside competition will be announced at a later date.
This fall, Oklahoma returned 16 players from the 2022 roster and welcomed 31 newcomers, 17 of which are true freshmen. Seven newcomers are transfers from a four-year school and 12 others transferred from a junior college. The OU roster features four catchers, 10 infielders, nine outfielders and 26 pitchers.

Recently, Oklahoma was tabbed as the No. 23 program in the nation by D1Baseball, which factored in success over the last 5-10 yards and projection of future success for the next 5-10 years. Since 2012, the Sooners have made three NCAA Regional appearances (2017, '18, '22) and the College World Series in 2022. Just three years ago in 2019, D1Baseball slotted OU at No. 40 on the national scale.
