2022 OU Baseball By the Numbers

A second-half turnaround, Big 12 Championship, trip to the Men's College World Series and a berth in the MCWS finals produced a 2022 Oklahoma baseball season to remember.Ā The Sooners took the hard road in the postseason, spending the final six weeks away from home, including the Big 12 Championship, the NCAA Gainesville Regional, the NCAA Blacksburg Super Regional and the College World Series in Omaha, Neb. OU finished the season as Big 12 tournament champions and national runner-up with a 45-24 overall record and a 15-9 mark in Big 12 Conference play.

OU's team batting average was its highest since 2011 (.313). Six Sooners hit at a clip of .300 or better. Tanner TredawayĀ (third, 105) and Peyton Graham (17th, 93) finished in the top-20 nationally in hits.

Only one player in program history has hit 20 home runs and stolen 30 bases in a single season: Peyton Graham. He led the Sooners with 20 homers and 34 steals in 2022. He ranked 11th nationally in stolen bases and 32nd in home runs.

With an 8-1 victory over Texas on May 29, OU claimed its third Big 12 tournament title and its first since 2013. The team went a perfect 4-0 in the tournament and placed four players on the all-tournament team;Ā Peyton Graham was named Most Outstanding Player.Ā

OU lead the Big 12 in five statistical categories. Walks (378), times hit by pitchĀ (97), on-base percentage (.410), sacrifice bunts (35) and walks allowed per nine innings (3.44).

The number of Sooners to record double digit steals (Peyton Graham [36], Tanner Tredaway [24], Kendall Pettis [22], Blake Robertson [12], John Spikerman [12] and Jimmy Crooks [10]). ThisĀ was the first time since 1989 that six players notched at least 10 steals in a season, and theĀ last time three players notched at least 20 stolen bases was 1994. On six occasions this season a player stole three bases in a game (Tredaway [3], Graham [2], Pettis [1])

The number players to earnĀ All-Big 12 Conference honors. Blake Robertson was named Newcomer of the Year. Jake Bennett and Peyton Graham were named to All-Big 12 First Team, Blake Robertson, Trevin Michael and Tanner Tredaway were on the second team and Jimmy Crooks was among the honorable mentions. Wallace Clark, Cade Horton and Jackson Nicklaus were given spots on the All-Freshman Team.Ā

The Sooners reached the program's 11th NCAA Men's College World Series, and their first since 2010. OU advanced to its first MCWS Championship Series (third MCWS final appearance overall).Ā

Oklahoma led the nation and tied a program record with 11 players selectedĀ in the 2022 MLB Draft. Cade Horton (Round 1, Pick 7), Jake Bennett (Round 2), Peyton GrahamĀ (Round 2), Jimmy CrooksĀ (Round 4), Blake RobertsonĀ (Round 7), Tanner TredawayĀ (Round 10), Trevin MichaelĀ (Round 10), David SandlinĀ (Round 11), Chazz MartinezĀ (Round 17), Javier RamosĀ (Round 18) and Jaret GodmanĀ (Round 19) were all picked in the MLB Draft. OU's three picks in the first two rounds – and seven picks in the first 10 rounds – set a new program mark, while the four top-four round selections tied a program record.

Oklahoma's strength of schedule ranked 14th nationally. OU went 18-12 against the top 50 of the RPI, registering the third most such wins nationally. ThirteenĀ of OU's regular season opponents made the NCAA tournament and two (Auburn, Texas) made the CWS.Ā

OU's 15 conference wins were its most since 2010 (15-10), and its second-place finish in the regular season standings was its highest since 2010.Ā

The Sooners won 27 games away from home this season, posting a 15-9 mark at neutral sites and a 12-9 record in true road games.Ā

Oklahoma was 18-12 and 4-5 in Big 12 play on April 12, but beginning that night in Amarillo, won 27 of its final 39 games of the season, winning at least two games every weekend for 10 straight weeks.Ā

Oklahoma registered at least 40 victories for the 24th time in program history, and first since 2013 (43-21 record). OU's 45 wins were the most since 2010 (50-18 record, College World Series appearance).

Blake Robertson led the nation and set a new school recordĀ by racking up 69 walks on the year. Terry Bogener held the previous record with 68, set in 1976.Ā

The number of home runs hit by the Sooners during the 2022 season. It is the most since the 2010 CWS team hit 105 bombs on their way to Omaha. Peyton Graham accounted for 20Ā  home runs and Jackson Nicklaus notched 11 homers (the second-most ever by an OU true freshman).

Tanner Tredaway notched 105 hits, the second-most in a single season in school history and the third most in the nation in 2022. He was the sixth player in school history to record at least 100 hits in a season (105).Ā Tredaway registered 217 career hits and became the 43rd Sooner to notch at least 100 hits, 100 RBIs (118) and 100 runs scored (130) in his career.

Creating chaos on the basepaths was a hallmark of this Sooners squad. The team stole 145 bases on the season, the most since registering 168 steals in 1989. It was the fourth most nationally this season. This was the first time an Oklahoma team collected at least 100 stolen bases since 1996 (104) and the 13th time since 1962 that an OU team totaled at least 100 stolen bases in a single season.Ā

Oklahoma drew 178 more free passes than its opponents. OU batters registered 378 walks and were hit by a pitch 97 times this season, totaling 475 free passes, and allowed 235 walks and 62 hit batters (297 free passes). The Sooners' 378 walks led the Big 12 and ranked third nationally.

Jake Bennett (133) and David Sandlin (102) combined for 235 strikeouts, the most by an OU duo since 1985 (Bobby Witt [118] and Steve Peters [106]).

The OU pitching staff registered 644 strikeouts, setting a new program record that surpassed the previous mark of 608, set in 2018.
