OU Finishes Schooner Fall Classic in Sixth

NORMAN – Raychel Nelke recorded a team-low 2-under 68 and Oklahoma women's golf finished sixth to conclude the Schooner Fall Classic Monday at Belmar Golf Club.
The Sooners finished their home tournament even par 840. After holding on to second the first two rounds, Oklahoma faced a tough test on the final day, recording a 2-over 282.
Nelke, who posted rounds of 71-70, fired her first under par round as a Sooner. The freshman from Pocola, Okla., recorded back-to-back birdies on the fifth and sixth holes. She dropped a stroke on the seventh and responded with a birdie on the ninth to complete her front nine 2-under 34.
Nelke drained a birdie on the par 3 139-yard 11th hole to move to 3-under. She dropped a stroke on the 18th hole and finished the tournament 1-under 209. Nelke tied for 15th.
Mikhaela Fortuna led the Sooners through the three-day 54-hole tournament, tying for 10th. She recorded rounds of 66-71-70 and finished 3-under 207.
Fortuna recorded a bogey on the fourth hole and was 1-over through seven. She propelled herself back to under par with back-to-back birdies to close out the front nine. Fortuna moved back to even after a bogey on the 18th hole.
Maria Fernanda Martinez matched Fortuna on the day, recording an even par 70. Martinez opened her round with a bogey on one and moved back to even after a birdie on the 12th. She parred her last six holes and tied for 57th.
Savannah Barber recorded a 4-over 74 and tallied two birdies on the front nine. She recorded a 2-over 38 on the front nine and a 2-over 36 on her final nine holes. Barber tied for 32nd.
Meagan Winans concluded her tournament with a 7-over 77 and tied for 74th with a 12-over 222.
Kaylee Vesely led the Oklahoma individuals in the field, firing a 3-under 67. Vesely finished the front nine even par and netted a trio of birdies on the back nine. She recorded rounds of 71-73-67 and tied for 27th.
Madison Smith and Nina Lang each fired 6-over 76 in the final round. Smith tied for 49th and Lang finished 83rd.
Gracie Mayo tallied a 4-over 74 and tied for 77th.
