Alo Finishes in Top Three for Honda Cup

LOS ANGELES — Oklahoma softball redshirt senior Jocelyn Alo finished as one of the top three finalists for the Collegiate Woman Athlete of the Year and the 2022 Honda Cup, announced Monday during the Collegiate Women Sports Awards Show presented by Honda on CBS Sports Network.

Alo was chosen as a top-three finalist by the Board of Directors of the Collegiate Women Sports Awards program. Aliyah Boston, a basketball student-athlete from South Carolina was selected as the Honda Cup recipient. Joining Alo and Boston in the top three was Trinity Thomas, a gymnast from Florida.

Alo joined fellow finalists and sport award winners Jill Bolton (Libery, field hockey), Boston (South Carolina, basketball) Kate Douglass (Virginia, swimming & diving), Jaelin Howell (Florida State, soccer), Jamie Ortega (North Carolina, lacrosse), Whittni Orton (BYU, cross country), Dana Rettke (Wisconsin, volleyball), Abby Steiner (Kentucky, track & field), Peyton Stearns (Texas, tennis), Thomas (Florida, gymnastics) and Rose Zhang (Stanford, golf) in Los Angeles for the ceremonies on Sunday and Monday.

Alo rewrote the record books as a Sooner, closing her collegiate career as a two-time national champion, two-time USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year and the NCAA career record holder for home runs, slugging percentage and total bases. The Hauula, Hawaii, product was also a four-time NFCA All-American after garnering her third nod to the First Team in 2022.

The two-time Big 12 Player of the Year broke the NCAA career record for home runs, finishing with an unprecedented 122 and led the Sooners to the program's sixth national title and second consecutive in 2022. She finishes first in NCAA Division I history for home runs, total bases (761) and slugging pct. (.987) and became the first player in history to hit 30 home runs and bat .500 in the same season. She was also the first player to record three seasons of 30-plus home runs, accomplishing the feat in 2018, 2021 and 2022.

Alo finished her super senior season with an NCAA-best 34 home runs, .515 batting average, 85 RBIs and 1.212 slugging percentage. She departs Oklahoma as the program record holder holder in nine statistical categories and second place in additional two.

Alo joined 2013 alum Keilani Ricketts as the only Sooners to win the Honda Sport Award for softball. Ricketts won the softball award in 2012 and 2013 and claimed the Honda Cup and Collegiate Woman of the Year honor in 2013.

The CWSA, celebrating its 46th anniversary, has honored the nation's top NCAA women athletes for their superior athletic skills, leadership, academic excellence and eagerness to participate in community service. Since commencing its partnership in 1986, Honda has provided more than $3.64 million in institutional grants to the universities of the award winners and nominees to support women's athletics programs.
