ARLINGTON, Texas – Oklahoma baseball redshirt sophomore shortstop
Peyton Graham has been named one of 31 semifinalists for the Golden Spikes Award, presented annually to the top amateur baseball player, USA Baseball announced Tuesday.
Graham, who was also named to the All-Big 12 First Team on Tuesday, leads Oklahoma with 14 home runs, four triples, 53 RBIs, 61 runs scored and 27 stolen bases, and has batted .335 this season. The Waxahachie, Texas, product paces the Sooners with 23 multiple hit games and 16 multiple RBI contests.
Graham has been particularly hot at the plate in the second half of the season. In 24 games since April 10, he has hit .370 (37 of 100) with 29 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has posted a .710 slugging percentage and a .476 OBP while recording 16 of his 21 walks and seven of his 14 home runs. He is 17 of 18 in stolen base attempts over the last 24 contests.
Fan voting will once again be a part of the Golden Spikes Award in 2022. Beginning with the semifinalist announcement and continuing through the finalist round voting deadline, fans from across the country will be able to vote for their favorite player on
GoldenSpikesAward.com. The three finalists will be announced on June 8, and the winner of the 44th Golden Spikes Award will be named on Friday, June 24, on ESPN.
This is the fourth time since 2016 that Oklahoma has produced a Golden Spikes Award semifinalist. Graham joins Sheldon Neuse (2016), Steele Walker (2017) and
Tyler Hardman (2021) on the list.
