Eight Sooners Earn All-Big 12 Honors, Robertson Top Newcomer

NORMAN – Blake Robertson was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Year, Jake Bennett and Peyton Graham were named to the All-Big 12 First Team and Oklahoma garnered three All-Big 12 Second Team honors, as announced by the conference office on Tuesday. Selections were made by the league's head coaches, who were not permitted to vote for their own players.
 
Robertson was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team along with outfielder Tanner Tredaway and pitcher Trevin Michael. Additionally, Wallace Clark, Cade Horton and Jackson Nicklaus were named to the Big 12 All-Freshman Team. Clark and Nicklaus were unanimous selections, and OU's three all-freshman honors tied for most in the league with Texas Tech. Catcher Jimmy Crooks received honorable mention recognition.
   
A redshirt sophomore first baseman from Edmond, Okla., Robertson is Oklahoma's third Big 12 Newcomer of the Year and first since Brylie Ware in 2017. In his first year at OU after transferring from Cowley College, Robertson has batted .338 with 22 doubles and 61 walks, scoring 51 runs and driving in 43 runs. In 24 conference games, he hit .362 with 15 doubles and 34 walks, posting a .544 on-base percentage. His 35-game reached base streak was the longest in the league this season. Robertson was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on April 25.
 
Bennett has been the Sooners' Friday night starter all season, posting a 6-3 record and 3.83 ERA in 14 starts. The redshirt sophomore from Bixby, Okla., has struck out 91 batters and walked only 16 in 82.1 innings. In Big 12 play, he went 5-2 in eight starts, striking out 56 and allowing eight walks in 47.2 innings. Bennett has gone at least 6.0 innings in nine starts and allowed three or fewer runs nine times. He was named Big 12 Pitcher of the Week on May 2.
 
Graham leads Oklahoma with 14 home runs, four triples, 53 RBIs, 61 runs scored and 27 stolen bases, and has batted .335 this season. The redshirt sophomore shortstop from Waxahachie, Texas, hit .362 with nine homers, 41 RBIs, 16 steals and 35 runs in Big 12 play this season. Graham paces the Sooners with 23 multiple hit games and 16 multiple RBI contests. He was named to the All-Big 12 Second Team in 2021.
 
A fifth-year senior from Justin, Texas, Tredaway is OU's leading hitter with a .346 batting average. He has tallied 51 RBIs, 13 doubles, six home runs, 48 runs scored and 22 steals. The OU center fielder batted .356 with 10 extra base hits. 31 RBIs and 12 steals in Big 12 play. His 23 multiple-hit games are tied with Graham for the team best, and he has notched 15 multiple RBI contests.
 
Michael, a fifth-year senior from Piedmont, Okla., has registered eight saves and posted a 4-1 record with a team-best 3.21 ERA in 20 relief appearances this season. His 70 strikeouts are second-most on the team, and he has walked just 16 batters in 47.2 innings. A first-year transfer from Lamar University, Michael has made 10 appearances in Big 12 play, totaling four saves and 40 strikeouts in 26.0 innings, and posting a 3-1 record with a 3.81 ERA.
 
A true freshman from Tulsa, Okla., Clark batted .377 in his 22 conference games. The third baseman registered 15 RBIs, five doubles, 16 walks and scored 20 runs in league play. In 32 games overall this season (26 starts), Clark has batted .337 with 22 RBIs and 23 runs scored. He has reached base in 20 consecutive games.
 
Horton, a redshirt freshman pitcher and infielder from Norman, Okla., has made 39 starts in the lineup and nine appearances on the mound. He has started 25 games at third base and 10 as designated hitter and has registered six doubles and 17 RBIs while scoring 28 runs. On the mound, he has posted a 2-2 record in 22.2 innings.
 
An Overland Park, Kan., product, Nicklaus has made 41 starts at second base and batted .288 with eight home runs and eight doubles. He has scored 36 runs and registered 23 RBIs. In Big 12 conference play, Nicklaus hit five home runs and tallied 12 RBIs and 20 runs scored. He has 12 multiple hit games this season.
 
Crooks has batted .299 with 15 doubles, four home runs, 31 RBIs, 10 steals and 38 runs scored this season. The redshirt sophomore catcher from Euless, Texas, has caught 16 runners stealing this season, including nine of the last 13 potential base stealers. In league play, he notched nine doubles, three homers, 16 RBIs and scored 19 runs.
 
The third-seeded Sooners (33-20, 15-9 Big 12) open the 2022 Phillips 66 Big 12 Baseball Championship against sixth-seeded West Virginia (33-20, 14-10 Big 12) at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
