NORMAN — No. 1 Oklahoma beat Tulsa 9-0 in five innings Wednesday at Marita Hynes Field for win No. 33 on the season and the team's 27th victory by run-rule.
The Sooners matched last year's program-best start at 33-0 with Wednesday's win and can set the program record with a win Friday night in Lubbock vs. Texas Tech.
With the wind howling at over 20 mph throughout the game, Oklahoma turned to the short game to beat the Golden Hurricane (12-23-1).
The Sooners scored nine runs on 10 hits with just one extra-base hit on the night. Eight Sooners brought in a run with eight also registering a hit. Out of the 13 players that had a plate appearance 11 Sooners reached base.
OU scored in each of the four innings they went to the plate.
In the first, redshirt senior Taylon Snow recorded an RBI groundout to plate sophomore Jayda Coleman. The second inning saw a pair of sacrifice bunts from seniors Jana Johns and Jocelyn Alo and an RBI single from sophomore Alyssa Brito.
In the third, OU plated four runs on four hits and a TU error. The scoring started with an RBI single from Coleman prior to a Hansen fielder's choice that scored senior captain Lynnsie Elam. Johns then registered her second sacrifice RBI of the game on a groundout to short before another fielder's choice RBI, this one from junior Rylie Boone.
OU added to their total in the fourth with a sacrifice-fly RBI from junior Mackenzie Donihoo.
Sophomore righty Nicole May collected her 10th win of the season in the circle with a complete-game shutout, allowing just three hits and two walks to go with five strikeouts.
