OU Falls to No. 1 TCU in Big 12 Semifinal

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Oklahoma men's tennis team fell in the semifinals of the Big 12 Men's Tennis Championship to No. 1 TCU in 4-1 fashion at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

"Today was a battle," head coach Nick Crowell said. "We played the No. 1 team in the country down to the wire tonight. Our guys are competing and playing at a very high level."

The Sooners battled hard on all three doubles courts, but TCU tallied the point. At the top spot, No. 2 pair Luc Fomba and Jake Fearnley defeated No. 68 pair Welsh Hotard and Alex Martinez 6-4. The point was clinched on court three with Juan Carlos Aguilar and Pedro Vives tallying a 6-4 victory over Baptiste Anselmo and Mark Mandlik.

When play was halted, Mason Beiler and Nathan Han were up 5-4 against No. 9 Sander Jong and Lui Maxted on court two.

Justin Schlageter picked up the Sooners lone point of the day with a 7-5, 7-5 victory over Tomas Jirousek on court six.

Jordan Hasson fell to Vives 6-1, 7-6 (3) on court five. Anselmo battled in three sets, but fell to No. 86 Fearnley 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 on court four. At the two spot, Martinez took it to a hard-fought third set but fell 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 against No. 14 Aguilar.

When play was halted, No. 40 Beiler was in a third set against No. 18 Fomba with a score of 4-6, 7-5, 1-1. Mandlik was in a third set against No. 67 Jong with a score of 7-5, 4-6, 2-4.

"We will get back to work the next two weeks and prepare for NCAAs," Crowell continued.
