"We all provide a spark," said OU freshman Emre Dodanli. "Everyone on this team steps up when they need to and that was what tonight was all about."
The Sooners competed in Olympic order, starting the night with a 70.531 on floor exercise to win the event. Dodanli started the OU's rotation with a 14.133 and junior Jack Freeman followed with a 14.066. Sophomore Zach Nunez competed on floor for the first time since Feb. 19 and secured a career-high 13.733. Senior Spencer Goodell notched a 14.266 to claim third place on the event and senior Vitaliy Guimaraes ended the rotation with a 14.333 to finish in second.
On pommel horse, the Sooners tallied a team score of 63.432 and were led by Nunez's 13.900, which earned him the individual event title. Guimaraes notched a 13.633 to finish in third.
In the third rotation, Goodell tallied the Sooners' highest still rings score with a 13.700. A 13.666 by freshman Fuzzy Benas and a 13.533 by junior Alan Camillus contributed to OU's 67.865 score.
The Sooners heated up on vault and were led by redshirt junior Josh Corona, who took home his first individual event title of the season with a 14.633. He was followed by Dodanli's career-high 14.600, which was good for second place, Benas' 14.500 and sophomore Daniel Simmons' 14.166, giving the Sooners a 70.699.
On parallel bars, Benas led Oklahoma with a 14.266 while Nunez registered a 13.700 and Goodell a 13.566, as the Sooners finished with a 67.731 on rotation five.
OU finished the night on high bar and registered a 67.032, the second-best score of the night. Freeman finished third on the event with a 14.033 while Gamboa tallied a 13.733 and Guimaraes notched a 13.466.
The Sooners will compete in the NCAA Championships Finals on Saturday at 6 p.m. CT at Lloyd Noble Center. They will be seeking their 13th NCAA title, which would set the all-time men's gymnastics record.
