NORMAN – Oklahoma men's gymnastics freshman
Fuzzy Benas secured the Collegiate Gymnastics Association (CGA) Rookie of the Year honor as announced by the organization Thursday.
He notched a team-leading twelve individual event titles on the floor, still rings, vault, parallel bars and all-around through the 2021-22 season.
Benas holds a team-best score on the still rings (14.200), vault (15.000), parallel bars (14.750) and all-around (84.500).
He recorded season-high scores on the floor (14.200), pommel horse (13.800) and high bar (13.750).
Benas tallied a 14.150-plus score on vault in all eight meets during the 2021-22 slate.
He scored a 83.800 in the all-around in his first competition of the year at the Rocky Mountain Open, earning CGA Gymnast of the Week, CGA Rookie of the Week and MPSF Gymnast of the Week accolades.
Benas continued to grow through the season, registering a 84.500 all-around score in the Sooners' senior night win over California and a second-place finish (84.700) in the all-around at the MPSF Championship.
The freshman earned four-regular season All-America honors (VT, PB, SR, AA), which tied for most in the NCAA this year
