When the Sooners step onto the floor Thursday afternoon, they will begin their pursuit of the fifth national title in program history. OU's first title came in 2014 when it tied with Florida. The next three were secured outright in 2016, 2017 and 2019.Ā

The Sooners have combined for six perfect 10s this season. Allie Stern (VT), Katherine LeVasseur (VT), Jordan Bowers (VT), Ragan Smith (BB) and Carly Woodard (BB) have all earned at least one perfect score this season. Smith earned two on beam in 2022, while Stern and LeVasseur earned theirs back-to-back in the home opener.Ā

OU advanced to an 18th-straight NCAA Championship with a 12th-straight regional title. OU has appeared at the NCAA Championships 21 times in program history.Ā

The Sooners have tallied a nation-best eight scores of 198-plus in 2022. The Sooners are just two marks of 198 or higher off their program record 10 set in 2018.

With their appearance at the NCAA Championship this week, the Sooners are one of just two teams to advance to every NCAA Championship since 2004. Utah is the only other program to appear every year. Should the Sooners advance to Saturday's finals, they will be the only school since 2013Ā to make it to the finals every year.Ā

Against Michigan, the Sooners posted a program record with a 49.825 on the uneven bars. All six Sooners in the lineup posted at least a 9.925 on the event with four earning marks of 9.975. The score also tied the NCAA record on the event.Ā Ā

With the highest score in championship history, the Sooners claimed their 12th Big 12 title and ninth in the last 10 years. OU posted a 198.200 at the Big 12 Championship, defeating the defending champion, Denver.Ā

Jordan Bowers and Ragan Smith ended the year as the No. 1 gymnasts in the nation on vault and beam, respectively. Bowers earned a perfect score on the event and multiple 9.975s throughout the season to solidify herself as the top vaulter in the country. Smith earned a pair of perfect scores in 2022 to earn her spot as the best beam worker in the nation.Ā

OU has had six gymnasts combine for 17 individual NCAA titles. Kelly Garrison (1987, 1988) won all-around honors twice and claimed bars and beam titles as OU's first ever individual national champion. Taylor Spears broke a 26-year drought to claim the balance beam title in 2014 while Nicole Lehrmann earned her first championship on bars in 2017. Brenna Dowell earned a pair of titles winning vault in 2018 and floor in 2019. Maggie Nichols ended her career as the all-time leader with six titles. Nichols was a back-to back all-around winner (2018, 2019), back-to-back uneven bars champion (2017, 2018) and earned titles on floor (2018) and vault (2019). Anastasia Webb earned three titles in 2021, bringing home the all-around, vault and floor titles in her senior season.Ā

Of the 336 routines competed so far by the Sooners, 195 have been performed by underclassmen. That means 58 percent of routines competed are being done by freshmen and sophomores. At least one freshman has competed on vault, bars and floor in every meet this season.
The Sooners will face No. 4 Utah, No. 5 Alabama and No. 8 Minnesota in Semifinal I, while No. 2 Florida, No. 3 Michigan, No. 7 Auburn and No. 11 Missouri will compete in Semifinal II. The top two teams from each session will advance to Saturday's final four scheduled for 12 p.m. CT on ABC.Ā
