First Pitch

• Oklahoma (18-12) travels to Amarillo, Texas, for a non-conference meeting with Texas Tech (27-8) at Hodgetown, home of the Amarillo Sod Poodles (Double-A affiliate of the Arizona Diamondbacks). Game time is set for 6 p.m.
• This is the second straight season in which the Sooners and Red Raiders will meet for a non-conference game in Amarillo. Texas Tech won 14-4 last year.
• Tuesday's contest concludes a nine-game stretch over two weeks in which the Sooners face eight teams ranked among the top-10 nationally. OU is 4-4 through the first eight games of that stretch.

Leading Off

• Through the first eight weeks of the season (30 games), the Sooners are 11-9 against the RPI top 100, including eight top-50 wins (8-8) and five top-25 wins (5-5). OU's overall strength of schedule is ranked third in the country while its non-conference SOS is ranked sixth nationally.
• Oklahoma is hitting .282 as a team and averaging 6.1 runs, 9.0 hits and 2.7 extra base hits per game (55 doubles, 19 home runs). The pitching staff has compiled a 5.40 ERA, 274 strikeouts to 110 walks and 279 hits in 243.0 innings and has allowed a .266 opponent batting average.
• On the other side, Texas Tech is hitting .306 as a team. The Red Raiders average 9.7 runs, 10.8 hits and 4.2 extra base hits per game (84 doubles, 53 home runs). The pitching staff has compiled a 4.35 ERA, 364 strikeouts to 120 walks and 269 hits in 310.0 innings and has allowed a .231 opponent batting average.
• Oklahoma is in its fifth season under the direction of head coach Skip Johnson (including the 2020 season that was shortened due to the COVID-19 pandemic). Johnson, who spent the 2017 season on staff as an assistant coach, has led the Sooners to a 130-92 record since taking over as head coach prior to the 2018 season.

Series History

• Oklahoma leads the overall series against Texas Tech 49-44-1, though the Red Raiders have won eight of the last 10 meetings and 16 of 24 since the start of the 2014 season. In a similar number of games from 2007-13, the Sooners won 17 of 24 meetings. From 2003 through 2013, OU went 28-9 against TTU.
• The Sooners won the Big 12 series opener last season, 9-8 in 10 innings. The Red Raiders the next two games by scores of 15-2 and 13-2, as well as the meeting in Amarillo (14-4).Ā

Noting the Sooners

• D• uring the first 10 games of the season, Oklahoma scored a total of 35 runs (average of 3.5 per game). The Sooners have scored 147 runs during the last 20 games (7.4 per game). OU has scored at least seven runs in 15 of those 20 games.
• OU is 43 for 55 on stolen base attempts in the last 20 games (average of 2.2 steals per game). Thirteen different players registered at least one steal during that stretch, led by Tanner Tredaway and Peyton Graham's seven steals. Kendall Pettis has registered six steals over the last 17 contests.
Blake Robertson leads the Sooners with a .355 batting average (38 for 107), 28 walks and 10 doubles. Graham has team bests of eight home runs, 26 RBIs and 27 runs scored while batting .310 (36 for 116). Tredaway is batting .316 (36 for 114) with seven doubles, 25 RBIs and 21 runs scored.
• During its 12-game homestand (9-3 record at L. Dale Mitchell Park from March 8-27), Oklahoma turned up the offense. The Sooners batted .336 with 40 extra base hits (average of 3.3 per game), 26 doubles, 12 home runs, 67 walks (5.6 per game) and 29 stolen bases. OU totaled 100 runs (8.3 per game) and registered 133 hits (11.1 per game).
• OU scored at least seven runs in eight straight games between March 8-19. The Sooners had a similar eight-game scoring run between March 9-21 of last season, but this was only the third occurrence in the last 11 years. Oklahoma opened the 2011 season by scoring at least seven runs in nine consecutive games.

Recapping the Last Week

• OU started the week with an 8-2 win over Oral Roberts on Tuesday at L. Dale Mitchell Park and won the Bedlam series opener 8-7 Friday night in Stillwater. OSU won the final two games by scores of 8-7 and 9-4.
• On Tuesday night, the Sooners jumped out in front of Oral Roberts with two runs in the first inning and another in the second, then tacked on two runs in the fifth and three more in the seventh inning. Five OU pitchers held the Golden Eagles to six hits and single runs in the seventh and ninth innings.
• The trio of Peyton Graham (3 for 4, 2 RBIs, home run), Tanner Tredaway (3 for 5, two RBIs, two runs) and Blake Robertson (2 for 4, RBI triple in first inning). Jimmy Crooks added a triple and two RBIs, as the second through fifth hitters in the OU lineup accounted for nine of the team's 10 hits and all seven runs batted in.
• Braden Carmichael allowed a hit and struck out two over his 4.0 innings, retiring nine straight to end his outing. Carson Atwood worked around two hits in his 2.0 frames, Carter Campbell struck out three of the five batters he faced in 1.1 innings and Griffin Miller closed it out in the ninth.
• Friday night, Oklahoma scored two runs in the ninth inning to defeat OSU, just as it had done on March 29. Robertson provided the hit that scored the tying run and Sebastian Orduno drove in the winning run with an RBI single. The game ended on a caught stealing when Crooks fired to Jackson Nicklaus at second base. The bullpen combo of Colton Sundloff, Carter Campbell and Trevin Michael allowed just two hits over 4.0 shutout innings.
• On Saturday, the Sooners scored three runs in the third inning to tie the game, then broke the tie with four runs in the top of the seventh. OSU, however, scored a run in the seventh, three in the eighth and won the game in the bottom of the ninth. The Cowboys took an 8-0 lead on Sunday, before the Sooners picked up three runs in the seventh inning and added another in the ninth on Graham's eighth home run of the season.
• Robertson led Oklahoma in hitting last week with a .467 batting average (7 for 15) and three doubles. Tredaway hit .444 (8 for 18) with six RBIs, and Graham hit .389 (7 for 18) with five RBIs, two doubles, two homers and seven runs scored.

Base Snatchers

• The Sooners have registered 65 stolen bases in 83 attempts through 30 games this season. OU surpassed its total from all of last year (46 steals) in the 18th game of this season. The last time Oklahoma completed a season with at least 65 steals was in 2011 (79).
• Oklahoma ranks 11th nationally in stolen bases (65) and steals per game (2.2). Both figures rank second in the Big 12, only to West Virginia's 102 steals and average of 3.4 steals per game.
• Kendall Pettis, who led OU with seven steals in 2021, already has a team-high 12 stolen bases. Tanner Tredaway (six steals last year) has 11 and Peyton Graham has 10 stolen bases, and Blake Robertson has eight steals so far this season. Cade Horton and catcher Jimmy Crooks each have five stolen bases.
• OU's most steals over the last 12 seasons was 98, in 2010. The Sooners registered 56 steals in 2016, 62 in 2013 and 79 steals in 2011.
• Oklahoma went off for 11 steals against Wichita State on Feb. 22. Three players — Graham, Pettis and Tredaway — each had three stolen bases in the game. Graham notched three steals again vs. Texas on April 2. It was the fourth time a single player has registered three steals in a single game this season.
• Prior to Feb. 22, no single Sooner had stolen three bases in a game since Erik Ross against Hartford in 2012. Oklahoma (3-1) finished the Wichita State game one steal shy of the school record of 12, set in 1937 against East Central (Okla.) University.
