OKLAHOMA CITY - Oklahoma rowing got a jump start to its spring season on Saturday with a scrimmage against Kansas State on the Oklahoma River in Oklahoma City.
The two teams fielded their five varsity boats to simulate Big 12 Championship competition. The scrimmage consisted of a variety of races ranging from one to five minutes.Ā
"It was great to get out and line up against another team from the Big 12," said head coach
Leeanne Crain. "I'm proud of our team's effort today.Ā We were able to identity some key areas where we need improvement, but also feel good about where we are at this point in the season. We want to thank Kansas State for making the trip to Oklahoma City. This scrimmage has been a tradition for several years now and it's always great to get some strokes in against a competitive opponent early in the season."
Getting the first look at a potential first varsity eight, OU put out almost the same lineup as they did in the scrimmage against the Wildcats last season.
Kyleigh Arthur is the lone addition to the group of seasoned veterans.Ā
The Sooners will kick off their regular season at the Crew Classic in San Diego, Calif., on March 26-27.Ā
