NORMAN – A race win for the second varsity four highlighted the Oklahoma rowing team's trip to Columbus, Ohio for the Ohio State Invite on Saturday.

Led by coxswain Sydney Pino, the second varsity four took first place in their morning session race against boats from #20 Indiana and Michigan State. The group featuring rowers Madison Zieschang, Jayci Stonebraker, Shelby Hedgpeth and Jordan Wright registered a time of 08:03.600 to beat out the Hoosier and Spartan boats by a two second margin in a tight finish.

The first varsity eight crew for the Sooners put together a solid Saturday, taking second place in both of their races. Times of 6:43.5 and 6:51.1 are both marked improvements from the group's times at the Crew Classic two weeks ago. Both second place finishes came in close losses to ranked opponents, #9 Ohio State and #20 Indiana.

Cold weather persisted throughout the day, but ramped up during back half of the second session. Both the second varsity eight and first varsity four took third in each of their races, but posted season low times despite the adverse conditions.

The third varsity eight for OU snagged second place in the afternoon round of races, beating the Notre Dame boat to the finish line by ten seconds.

Up Next

The Sooners will travel to the Lake Wheeler Invite in Raleigh, N.C., the weekend of April 22-23 for their second to last regular season event before the Big 12 Championship in Austin, Texas on May 15.
