Screen Earns Top-10 Finish
NORMAN – Hannah Screen tallied her third-consecutive top-15 finish of the spring and Maria Fernanda Martinez fired a 6-under 66 to aid the Sooners to a fourth-place finish at the Mountain View Collegiate Sunday.
"I'm really proud of the way we fought today," said Oklahoma women's golf head coach Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "It was a big day for us today. We've been so close all year and we finally put a great final round together. The course played tough today and we had low round of the day. It was huge help for our team."
Screen opened the final round with a bogey but quickly settled down to get back to even after a birdie on the ninth. She compiled a four-hole stretch of two birdies and two bogeys and concluded her day with back-to-back birdies on the sixth and seventh holes to close her tournament 70-70-70.
Fernanda Martinez tallied four birdies on the back nine after starting her day on the ninth hole. She tallied back-to-back birdies to open the front nine before a bogey dropped her to 5-under through 15. The redshirt junior knocked in a birdie on the sixth and finished the tournament with a pair of pars for a career-low 66. She finished T25 (72-77-66).
"I'm really proud of Maria," said Drouin-Luttrell. "She was hitting great shots and just letting the putts fall and really helped put the team in a great position today."
Libby Winans opened her round with a bogey and quickly went to 1-under after dropping a eagle on the par-5 ninth hole. She finished the back nine 2-over and tallied three-consecutive birdies starting on the third hole. Winans finished T22 (73-71-70).
Meagan Winans finished her final round with a 1-over 73. The freshman tallied a 3-under 69 in the second round and tied for 35th (75-69-73).
Mikhaela Fortuna tallied a 5-over 77 to conclude the Collegiate. She tied for 61st and had her best-round of the tournament Saturday with a 2-over 74.
Kaylee Vesely finished the tournament 81st (19-over, 235) and competed as OU's lone individual.
