May, Bahl Toss No-Hitter in Honolulu Finale

March 12, 2022 | Softball

HONOLULU — No. 1 Oklahoma (20-0) completed the weekend sweep at the Rainbow Wahine Classic with a 9-0 win in five innings over Hawaii (5-9) on Saturday afternoon.

Highlighted by a combined no-hitter from sophomore Nicole May and freshman Jordy Bahl and four home runs from the offense, OU collected its 20th win and remain undefeated on the season. The win also marked Oklahoma's 16th run-rule victory.

Seniors Lynnsie Elam, Grace Lyons and Taylon Snow and freshman Sophia Nugent all went yard for OU's ninth game of the season with four-plus home runs.

The captain Elam opened the scoring on a solo shot in the second prior to Nugent's first career home run in her first career start as OU plated a trio in the inning.

In the fourth, RBI singles from junior Rylie Boone and redshirt senior Jocelyn Alo came before back-to-back blasts from Lyons and Snow to bring the final to 11-0, OU.

It marked the fourth time this season the Sooners have hit consecutive home runs.

May collected her seventh win of the season in the circle, going three innings and striking out three while allowing just one walk and a HBP. Bahl closed the final two innings, striking out four of the seven batters she faced.

The no-hitter was the Sooner pitching staff's fourth of the season and the second combined no hit performance. It marked the 64th no-hitter in program history.

The Sooners went 4-0 in Honolulu highlighted by Alo's NCAA record-breaking 96th career home run Friday in front of the home crowd. Oklahoma outscored its opposition 40-3 on the island and won all four games by run-rule.

On the season, OU is batting .379 as a team with 48 home runs on 184 hits and 170 RBIs. The team is outscoring opponents 186-20 and the pitching staff has 12 shutouts and 180 strikeouts to go with a combined 0.74 ERA.

The team returns to the state of Oklahoma to play in the Hall of Fame Classic next weekend, March 18-20, at USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City. OU, the host school, meets Sam Houston, Indiana, San Diego, Houston and Iowa in the tournament.

Tickets are still on sale via SoonerSports.com/tickets and the OU games can be seen on SoonerSports.tv and heard on the radio via The Franchise 2 (103.3 FM/1560 AM) in Oklahoma and nationwide on the TuneIn app with OU play-by-play announcer Chris Plank on the call.
