NORMAN – The No. 22 Oklahoma men's tennis team returns to the Headington Family Tennis Center, beginning their six-match homestand with matches against Wichita State and Arkansas.  

The Sooners will face Wichita State at 6 p.m. CT on Friday before returning to the court against Arkansas on Sunday in a match slated for 1 p.m. CT.

"Both matches this weekend are big for the Sooners," head coach Nick Crowell said. "Our guys enjoy our home courts and can't wait to see the fans come out again to support the team."

MATCHDAY BASICS

The Sooners' 2022 matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center will be open to the public and free of charge. Due to the elimination of concessions at the Headington Family Tennis Center, fans are encouraged to bring in their own food and drinks. OU implemented a clear bag policy.

Free pizza will be provided to the first 50 fans at both matches this weekend. Through the month of February, the Oklahoma tennis teams will recognize Black History Month at all of their matches.  

"This month we feature three night matches on Friday's at 6 p.m. CT which will be great matches and great opportunities for our team," Crowell said.

LAST TIME OUT

The Sooners closed ITA Kickoff Weekend with a 4-1 ranked win over No. 25 Illinois, Jan. 30, in Oxford Miss. The team's victory over Illinois was their first ranked win of the 2022 season. 

OU (6-1) took the doubles point over Illinois, tallying wins on courts two and three. Mason Beiler and Nathan Han finished first for OU, rolling through their match with a 6-0 victory over Olivier Stuart and Nic Meister at the No. 3 spot. Duo Baptiste Anselmo and Mark Mandlik clinched the doubles point for OU, defeating Alex Brown and Gabrielus Guzauskas 6-4 on court two.

In singles play, Justin Schlageter struck first for OU, earning a quick 6-3, 6-2 win over Meister on court six. No. 54 Hasson was the next Sooner to finish play, defeating Horve 6-1, 6-1 at the No. 5 spot. 

Illinois got on the board as No. 31 Beiler fell to No. 97 Stuart 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 1 spot. The Sooners responded with a 6-2, 7-5 victory for No. 49 Mandlik over Guzauskas on court four, clinching the match for OU. 

UP NEXT

OU will stay in Norman the month of February, hosting Alabama and Drake on Feb. 11 and 13, respectively. The team's matchup against Alabama will be at 6 p.m. CT on Feb. 6, while their match against Drake on Feb. 13 is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT
