PEORIA, Ariz. –
Libby Winans tallied back-to-back rounds of 69 and is third overall, and the Sooners are seventh after the first day at the Westbrook Invitational.
OU opened the day with a 1-under 287 and were in fourth after the first 18 holes.
Hannah Screen tallied a career-low 67 in the first round and registered four birdies on the back nine. Screen eclipsed her previous best 18-hole score of 68, which she set at the 2020 Betsy Rawls Invitational.
Winans finished the opening round with a 3-under 69 and finished with two birdies in her final five holes.
Kaylee Vesely, who is playing as an individual, finished the opening round with an even-par 72 and tied for 19
th.
"We had some good moments on the course, but also made a few mistakes that were costly," said Oklahoma head women's golf coach
Veronique Drouin-Luttrell. "As a team, we talk about staying in the present. We need to make that point of emphasis tomorrow."
Winans continued her first-round success with another 3-under 69 and enters the final round in third.
Vesely finished with a 1-under 143 through the first 36 holes and is tied for 15
th with Screen. Vesely's opening round of 72 marked a career low and was topped one round later with a 1-under 72.
Maria Fernanda Martinez is tied for 57
th after carding a 6-over 150.
Nina Lang netted a 1-over 73 in the first round and finished the first day 7-over 151, and
Meagan Winans rounded out Oklahoma's lineup with a 10-over 154.
The Sooners finished the first two rounds with 26 birdies and recorded the seventh-best scoring average (4.85, -6) on par 5s.
