February 19, 2022 | Softball
HOUSTON — No. 1 Oklahoma (9-0) came out firing on all cylinders again on day two of the Houston Classic, beating its two opponents by a combined score of 24-0 in 10 innings.
The Sooners beat McNeese 11-0 in five innings to start the day, highlighted by a no-hitter from redshirt senior Hope Trautwein. The graduate transfer struck out eight and allowed just one walk to the 16 batters she faced.
Alo hit four home runs in her seven at-bats on the day, blasting two in each game. The redshirt senior pushed her career home run number to 94, one shy of OU alum Lauren Chamberlain's NCAA career record of 95.
It marked the ninth and tenth time in Alo's career that she's homered twice in one game. It was the most home runs the Hawaii native has hit in a one day stretch and the first time she's hit two home runs in back-to-back games.
As a team, the Sooners hit eight long balls on the day and the pitching staff struck out 17 batters. Oklahoma is outscoring its opponents 87-2 on the season and have not allowed an earned run.
In game one, seven Sooners recorded a hit and batted in at least one run. Alo hit two homers, while junior Rylie Boone and sophomore Alyssa Brito also went yard. It marked Boone's second career home run and Brito's first as a Sooner.
Alo went 3-for-3 with three RBIs while Boone was also perfect at the plate with a 2-for-2, three RBI showing.
Trautwein threw her fourth career individual no-hitter and first as a Sooner, collecting her third win of the season.
The Sooners turned around to beat Houston 13-0 in five innings in game two. Alo stole the show, blasting two more home runs and racing towards the NCAA home run record. The senior went 3-for-4 with five RBIs.
Johns and junior Kinzie Hansen both contributed home runs to the offensive outburst, with Hansen bringing in a trio and Johns hitting her third home run of the weekend. Seven Sooners recorded a hit and six brought in at least one run.
In the circle, Bahl earned her fourth win of the season, striking out five in 3.1 innings of work and surrendering just one hit and no walks to the 11 batters she faced. Macy McAdoo and Nicole May finished the job, with May K'ing four in 1.2 innings and giving up no hits or walks.
