The Sooners posted their highest team scores on all six events, and OU sophomore Zach Nunez won the all-around with an impressive 82.850.
"I was amazed. We had a great night," said OU head coach Mark Williams. "We had some really great performances. It was great to see McCasland Field House filled up again and having the Cleveland (Elementary School) kids was awesome, as usual.
"Zach was on fire. He had some really good events. He's been making improvements in the gym and working hard, so I'm really happy for him. I'm really excited for this team because we've closed the gap on the best team out there. Just a great performance all the way around."
The Sooners started the night on floor exercise where they put up a 69.700 to earn the event title. The squad was paced by senior Vitaliy Guimaraes' 14.250 performance, tying him for the individual event title. Junior Jack Freeman followed close behind with a 14.150. Freshman Emre Dodanli was the first gymnast to compete in the meet and put up a 14.000, while Nunez scored a career-high 13.700.
In the second rotation of the meet, OU registered a 66.800 on pommel horse. Nunez led the pack with a 14.200, another career-high score. Junior Alan Camillus posted a 13.500, also good for a career best. Benas put up a 13.500 to help the Sooners' tally.
Oklahoma finished with a 68.400 on still rings to take the event title. Senior Spencer Goodell made his season debut on the event and notched a 13.950, tying him for the event title with teammate, Fuzzy Benas. Gamboa set a career high with his 13.800 performance and redshirt junior Evan Perreault scored a 13.500 for the Sooners.
On vault, the Sooners impressed the judges with five 14-plus scores and earned a season-high team score of 72.400 to win the event. OU was led by Benas' 14.750 performance, good for the event title. Close behind was redshirt junior Josh Corona, who scored a career-high 14.700. Sophomore Dan Simmons also set a career-best score with a 14.550 on the event, while freshman Cailen Walker and Nunez put up respective scores of 14.300 and 14.200 to tally the team's highest score of the meet.
In the fifth rotation, the Sooners recorded a season-best 68.800 on parallel bars. Benas led the squad with his 14.100, good for the individual event title. Nunez notched his career high on parallel bars with a score of 13.700. Goodell tallied a 13.800 and junior Alan Camillus registered a 13.650 as OU extended its lead.
The Sooners finished the night with a 68.000 on high bar to cap their event title sweep. Gamboa and redshirt junior Cesar Gracia earned career highs with respective scores of 14.050 and 13.950. Benas put up a 13.450 to finish his impressive night.
Oklahoma will take a week off from competition, but will have five gymnasts traveling to Frisco, Texas, next weekend for the 2022 Winter Cup. The preliminary round is set for Thursday, Feb. 24 at 7 p.m. CT and the finals will be held Saturday at 7 p.m. CT.
