Men's Hoops to Host Kansas City Tuesday

NORMAN – Following a four-game road swing, Oklahoma men's basketball returns home to host Kansas City on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m. and will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing. The game will air on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and Bryndon Manzer on the call.

Tuesday's clash will be the first meeting between the two programs.

The Sooners finished 3-1 on their road trip, including three victories at the ESPN Events Invitational. OU played Villanova on Saturday, Dec. 3 and dropped the Big 12-BIG EAST Battle 70-66 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. 

Grant Sherfield led the Sooners with 21 points and added four rebounds and four assists. Sherfield drained a career-high six 3-pointers and is shooting 51.3% (20-39) from deep this season. 

Tanner Groves and Jacob Groves each recorded 14 points against the Wildcats. T. Groves led the Sooners with seven boards and five assists.

Tuesday's game will be televised on ESPN+ with Chad McKee and Bryndon Manzer on the call.

SCOUTING THE ROOS

  • Marvin Menzies is in his first season at Kansas City and has 13 years of NCAA Division I head coaching experience, spending nine seasons at New Mexico State and three at UNLV. The Roos are 4-7 and have DI victories over Toledo and Indiana State. KC earned its fourth win of the season against Lindenwood (61-47) Saturday, Dec. 3.
  • RayQuawndis Mitchell is Kansas City's leading scorer, averaging 16.6 points per contest in 11 starts. Shemarri Allen adds 15.5 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game. Anderson Kopp has appeared in only four games this season and swipes a team-best 2.3 steals per game. He adds 13.0 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest. Allen Mukeba wrangles a team-high 8.9 rebounds per game and Jeff Ngandu records 1.4 blocks per contest. Mitchell, Allen, Mukeba, and Ngandu have started at least 10 games.

RANKING SUMMARY (12/5)

  • Oklahoma is ranked in the top 60 in six NCAA Division I categories. OU is 18th in scoring defense (58.5 PPG), 37th in three point percentage defense (27.6%), 47th in field goal percentage (48.4%), 50th in three point percentage (37.8%), 52nd in fouls per game (14.8) and 59th in effective field goal percentage (55.0%).
  • Grant Sherfield is eighth in the nation in 3-point percentage (51.3%) and 21st in free throw percentage (91.7%). Sherfield is the only NCAA DI men's basketball player this season to shoot 50% or greater from three (min. 2.5 made per game) and 90% or greater from the free throw line (min. 2.5 made per game). Sherfield is first in the Big 12 in minutes per game (34:00) and Jalen Hill is third (33:24). Tanner Groves is 32nd in the nation and second in the Big 12 in defensive rebounds per game (6.9) and fifth in the conference in rebounds per contest (7.4).

  • The Sooners are 46th in the first NET ranking of the season and 2-1 in the first two quadrants.
