NORMAN — University of Oklahoma soccer junior Cailey England has been named one of eight Big 12 Fall Scholar-Athletes of the Year, the conference announced the recipients Thursday.
England, a biology major with a perfect 4.0 GPA this fall, collects her first Big 12 Scholar-Athlete of the Year honor after being named to the conference's Academic All-Big 12 team three straight seasons.
She shares the honor with fellow Big 12 soccer student-athletes Hannah Anderson (Texas Tech), Jordan Brewster (West Virginia) and Emma Regan (Texas). Additionally, two cross country student-athletes along with one football and one volleyball player collected the conference's fall sports' scholar-athlete accolades.
The Dripping Springs, Texas, product has been a staple in the starting lineup since her arrival in Norman, starting 52 games including 19 of OU's 20 contests in 2022. She scored one goal from her midfield position this season, finding the back of the net for the third time of her career. England, a captain for the Sooners for two seasons, totaled over 1,400 minutes played in 2022.
England and OU concluded an exceptional fall slate with a 9-8-3 record and the team's first postseason victory since 2016, beating Texas Tech in the Big 12 Soccer Championship quarterfinals.
