NORMAN – Oklahoma volleyball sophomore libero
Callie Kemohah was named the Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
She is the second Sooner in 2022 to earn at least two weekly conference honors this season, joining fellow sophomore
Megan Wilson to accomplish this feat.
The award marks the fourth Defensive Player of the Week nod for Kemohah, who continues to power the OU defense from the back row. She currently leads the conference and Sooners this season in digs per set (4.66), while topping the Sooners and sitting in third for total digs (396) in the Big 12.
In another great defensive performance last weekend, Kemohah posted a conference-best 23 digs in a three-set match in the Sooners' victory against West Virginia. She also topped the Big 12 last week with 7.67 digs per set. For conference only matches, Kemohah is third in total digs (176) and fifth with 4.09 digs per set. She's also 10th with 0.30 service aces per set.
OU is coming off its first win in Morgantown, West Virginia, since Sept. 28, 2019. In their third conference win on the season, the Sooners posted back-to-back conference wins for the first time since October 16-17, 2020, while Saturday marked the first time since the beginning of the Gray-Walton Era (2018) that the Sooners earned consecutive road conference wins.
The Sooners were dominate offensively and defensively last weekend, topping the conference with 3.33 blocks per set and sitting in second with a .273 hitting percentage.
TCU's Callie Williams was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Baylor's Averi Carlson earned the Rookie Player of the Week.
The Sooners return home this week to host a pair of teams from the Lonestar State. Inside McCasland Field House, OU will face Texas Tech at 6 p.m. CT Wednesday and host No. 1 Texas for round two of the Red River Rivalry at 6 p.m. Saturday.
