NORMAN – Eleven Sooners scored as No. 15/16 Oklahoma cruised to a 90-67 exhibition win over Emporia State in Norman on Thursday night.
The contest marked Oklahoma's lone exhibition before its season opens next Monday vs. Oral Roberts.
Nevaeh Tot led the team in scoring with 15, while
Ana Llanusa and
Madi Williams reached double figures in the rout.
"I thought that today was really fun and good for us," head coach
Jennie Baranczyk said. "Obviously Emporia State is a good basketball team and is going to have a great year, and because of that there are definitely some things we learned tonight that we'll use and get better from. But overall, I just can't believe it's November and I could not be more excited about this team."
The Sooners started rusty in their first live-action since the 2021-22 season ended on March 21, with Emporia State jumping out to a 17-10 lead near the end of the first quarter before a
Kiersten Johnson layup and
Madi Williams 3-pointer cut the deficit to two after 10 minutes. The game was tied a few minutes later in the second quarter before Oklahoma took a 22-20 lead that it never surrendered. The Sooners outscored Emporia State 30-15 over the next 11:08, stretching into the second half. Baranczyk's team then overpowered the Division II powerhouse 49-32 in the second half to cruise to a 23-point win.
Tot, a junior point guard, finished with 15 points on a perfect 6-of-6 shooting and added five steals, four assists and four rebounds on the night. Llanusa returned to the floor for the first time since Dec. 10, 2021, and scored 11 points with six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Redshirt senior
Madi Williams poured in 10 points and grabbed six rebounds. Johnson, a freshman from Duncanville, Texas, shined in her debut, grabbing a team-high eight rebounds with nine points.
After the Lady Hornets shot 10-of-22 from deep in the first half, the Sooners held Emporia State to just 14% from beyond the arc in the second half. Oklahoma shot a 45.5% clip, including 13-of-17 from the free throw line.
The Sooners will officially open their season next Monday at 4 p.m. when they host Oral Roberts at Lloyd Noble Center.
